I would like to register and manage my own domain with whois.co.za. whois also need a primary and secondary DNS where can I get these from without having to let hosting provider register my domain. I had thought of using OpenDNS.
What do people advise.

whois.co.za would be the tld lookup service that uniforum offer...
its easier just paying the R30/R50 a month with a company like circle and moving on with your life.
even if you do get free dns though opendns / xname etc, you'll still have to host it.
there are free hosts out there like byethost if you have limited server requirements.

Actually, I found a dude who put 127.0.0.1 as his MX records and was wondering why his email only worked on his company's intranet... so it's quite possible for intengu to point his site to that IP address and register it with free dns hosts and only pay R50 for the registration of the .co.za while he/she organizes hosting somewhere

1. You'll need to setup 2 nameservers somewhere, with someone. This is normally setup for you when you order a hosting / domain park package from an ISP / web host. Seeing as you want to manage your own domain, you'll need to setup these yourself. Generally you need 2.
2. Then you need to register the domain on http://co.za (check the FAQ's for more info on this)
3. Now you need todo something with the domain, either setup a website (for which you'll need a web server), email server, dedicated game server, etc :)
