JOHANNESBURG – Mandla Lamba the 25-year-old self proclaimed “billionaire” has finally been arrested.

“We received information on his whereabouts and sent detectives to Nelson Mandela Square, where he was arrested just after 5 pm [on Tuesday],” said Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

Lamba has been a source of much interest, at just 25 he claimed to be the country’s youngest mining magnate, who owned several mining assets, counted the Ramaphosas as mentors and had R2.1bn in the bank. While investigating the source of his wealth in November last year Moneyweb spoke to Lamba who claimed to own three mining assets: a gold mine in KwaZulu-Natal; Mkuze Gold; 55% ownership in Matayo Gold in Carletonville; and Moussondji Gold, in the Republic of Congo Brazzaville, all which appeared to be nothing but lies.

Tonight Lamba, who is facing criminal charges ranging from fraud, theft, absconding bail on the culpable homicide charge; is spending the night at Johannesburg Central Prison.

Glad he finally got arrested, especially because he left a trail of devastation behind him, including some unpaid employees.
