Hi Guys, hope all are safe and protected. Just started this post to give some added insight into what we do and show off some of the projects we have completed and those in the pipeline. For any questions around Security, whether Alarms, CCTV and some Automation, feel free to post a question or send me a private message. We can all learn!

Cheers

Outside of domestic security needs, we're currently working with a property developer that builds and sells homes, a construction site(big name in industry) and a telecoms company(for their premises)
The one big challenge we face is integration; everyone wants things simplified with a minimalistic yet comprehensive approach. Everyone wants to use their SMART phones and related devices as a means to automate their house. Everyone wants a single application that integrates all of the above - THE HEADACHE.
We are constantly looking for ways to make the above possible for example;
The telecoms company wants the following;
Full alarm protecting the perimeter of the building using beams only
Door contacts on all door entrances
Intercom that can contact managers outside of working hours for access. During working hours it must ring inside.
Remote access to premises once notified of need to enter
CCTV, with good quality pictures, no cabling visible

All OF THE ABOVE MUST RUN OFF ONE APPLICATION WITH FULL ACCESS TO ALL FEATURES.
Existing building - ~1000 Sq Meters
Paving allround with no possibility of lifting or grinding channels
No ceiling in the building making it difficult to hide cables if needed.

What do you think the project above is worth?

Insight gold and paradox cameras, sensors and access control.
GSM intercom if not possible to find a VoIP based intercom. PBX with dial plan for managers after hours etc.

Thanks for your input.

There is more than one way to do the above however, the simplest way that will not confuse the client is what i am after. Paradox does not sell cameras. An Insite Gold subscription will be needed and then registration for Paradox My Home server so that you can link up IP devices. There is another option, which is to look at an Inim alarm system with Provision CCTV.

The problem i'm experiencing thus far, although we already know what we want to do is that the technical support from some of the suppliers knows less than us especially when you start speaking about integration.

The dial plan won't work since it will not integrate. Ideally, what you want here, is that someone presses a button, you receive a push notification which takes you to the camera pointed at the gate and then allows you to click open for the gate.

I could see the button being an alarm input into a camera at the entrance and then using the NVR alarm output to trigger "something". Possible to do the reverse from NVR to camera alarm output to trigger a gate. Generally all CCTV apps suck a bit to be honest, never seen one that does video calling and makes it easy to trigger an output. Interested to see what you eventually do. Haven't heard of inim and googling didn't really reveal much.

maybe go talk to pinnacle or inhep
Haven’t heard of Pinnacle. Inhep doesn’t know about these things. There is an app called PeepAll which integrates Paradox alarm panels and Dahua cctv. On the face of it, this was the solution I was after and hope to proceed with as well. At the same time, the Inim alarm has a much nicer alarm interface with icons whereas Paradox uses PGM renaming etc.

I’ll definitely do a write up about which option we go for.

Thanks for input. Some projects require external hints and suggestions. We don’t consider ourselves know it alls and appreciate learning through the process of gaining the experience.

inhep is the main distributor of dahua? they might not have the most knowledgeable people front sales people, ask to speak to a specalist sales person. pinnacle micro / pinnacle africa / pinnsec are one of the bigger distributors of axis, bosch, and hikvision that I know of with great sales assistance ive always received from them

Thanks.
I spoke to a particular salesperson who then referred me to a more senior person. Either way, i think we are moving in the right direction.

Hi guys, still planning the above project and think we came up with a solution. More of that later...

In the meantime, we did a wireless installation for a house in tokai. Not much to showcase the quality of your work since no cabling. It wouldn’t have been nice to glue since they have Spanish plaster inside as you will see on the cable for the transformer below.

Specification
Paradox MG5050 wireless alarm panel
Metal box
5x PIR non-pet wireless
4x Door contact wireless
1x LCD wireless keypad
2x Optex VXI 90degree wireless PIR - outdoor with Paradox wireless door contact for communication
2x Rem25 remotes
1x 3ch ET receiver
2x ET 6 button remote

Still to do once building is complete;
2x garage door openers
1x gate opener
2x outdoor PIR to cover the front

Some progress with regards to the grocery list for our project that we're quoting on;
MG5050 panel
Paradox Wireless Keypad or the TM70 tablet
50VAC Transformer
12V 7AH Battery
Paradox Wireless Siren/Strobe
LED status indicator
IP150 module
1x 2WPGM for Gate motor
1x 2WPGM for Reception entrance Gate
1x 2WPGM for Reception door entrance
2x 2WPGM for Aircons for Directors' offices - we may install a hardwired PIR with thermostat here that would auto engage Aircon within a certain temperature and also within working hours.
1x Wireless PIR for server room
3x Wireless Takex180 outdoor PIR for premises intrusion protection (Partition 2)
3x Wireless Paradox NV780 outdoor PIR for building intrusion protection (Partition 1)
1x Optex VXI/90 outdoor PIR for building intrusion protection (Partition 1)
4x Wireless Mags for PIR/beams above for communication to Panel
3x Wirelesss Mags for doors (Partition 1)
1x TX RX to sync electric fence to Alarm Panel
1x Paradox wireless Smoke Detector
2x Wireless Gate/Door opener

Intercom
1x Hikvision IP Video Intercom (I'd prefer to use cable here)
1x Microtech microwave dish to convert to wireless application
1x PSU to power the intercom

CCTV
Dahua 16CH POE NVR
2TB HD
5x Dahua 4MP Fixed Lens IP Cameras
2x Dahua 4MP VF WDR IP Cameras
1x 18 Way 20A PSU
Cat6 cable to be used

Hours and hours of elbow grease
I'm sure i am forgetting some things. The list is subject to change. I added some optional extras for the convenience creature comforts such as the Aircon and remote door entry - I'm not charging my client for any labour here(wireless pgm modules only - we can even get away with hardwired if they install a ceiling that will allow us to hide the cables); i just want to do it to be able to say that we done it all. Some other items like the cameras i made 4MP where 2MP will be more than enough however, the $$$$ difference between the 2 is only R150-R250.

Paradox insite Gold for automation and synchronization.

Can anyone who has this application let me know there experience. Installing them and living with them are 2 seperate worlds unfortunately.

Hey ManTech Security. I think you may have called me the other day... Our product, which we have self developed would work perfectly for you (and others in the industry).

Go take a look: www.sentian.co.za

We have developed the Hardware and Software for our Sentian product.
We take your alarm, cctv, automation and access control and link it all through our Sentian 3i hardware. You are then able to control everything from both a management and security perspective from a single app. View live feeds, Arm/Disarm the alarm, Open gates/doors, turn lights on and off or relays, view alarm sensors in real time, bypass zones, quick search through events and much much more!
The big selling point is that when the alarm triggers, the app sends a push notification with a 12sec video clip showing exactly what triggered the alarm and from there you can control what happens including sending a high priority panic to your armed response.

We are always looking for installer partners to come on board as well as end users and clients (whom we refer to our Installer Partners).

Feel free to PM me if you'd like some more info or ideally to setup a meeting.

Best of luck with your project! Happy to provide some insight from my/our end if need be.

Hi guys, did a cctv installation today with client supplied system in a factory with bottom floor size estimated at 2000-2500 sq meters.
System: Paravision 4 ch 1.3MP, 2.8mm lens kit with 1TB HDD.
This is a kit and comes with that crappy thin pre-made cables.
The hardware replicates that of Hikvision and interior bits are labeled Hikvision. It even runs on IVMS. Cameras feels very light and cheap. The housing is plastic and looks like the sun will eat it up if exposed for too long. I don’t mean to be so critical, just trying to be as critical as possible to give insight in case anyone is considering the product. It is definitely something I’d consider as a cheaper option to Hikvision to the HIk loyalist that may lack funds.
We had to join about 20M worth of RG59 cable to 3 of the cameras due to location. It should have taken us about 4 hours to install but the heat killed us.
See photos below of quality of cameras.0807D881-E124-4354-A251-B4678C08ECA1.jpeg43B4BC06-9207-4806-BCB5-CD321878AF75.jpeg54E5DD36-A4E1-46F3-85F1-0DF58C03AA57.jpeg0807D881-E124-4354-A251-B4678C08ECA1.jpeg54E5DD36-A4E1-46F3-85F1-0DF58C03AA57.jpeg

The exterior photo - the bakkie is about 25m away from camera to bakkie
On the warehouse pictures - the floor space is about 1000 sq meters each.

Not too bad for a budget system and supply and installation for around R6000.

Some night time pictures of the Paravision system below...

If I may be so bold, but could you give an indication of what a Walltop electric fence costs per running meter, with a sliding gate for cars? I know there are variables, but an idea will help with a decision I have. R100 / mt or R200 / mt? TIA

Hi Wasp, apologies for only getting back to you now. I try to react fast but forgot to respond after reading. We don't really specialise in electric fencing. There is a training certificate that should be completed before i'd consider looking to add it into my scope of work. It is pretty simple to do as the suppliers do all the calculations etc.

Where are you based?

ManTech completes another job.

Today we completed an installation/Panel swop rather, using clients existing equipment. Our client is in the construction industry and setup a job site/base where they operate out of approximately 15 containers. They were using a DSC system and had a Paradox MG5050 panel lying around. Due to frustration of false alarms/triggers, they decided to swop out the DSC for the MG5050. We conducted a site audit and made some recommendations.
What they had;
Everything that follows is wireless...
DSC panel, Wireless receiver, extra power supply, 15 x beams (optex bx80 X 14 and 1 X optex VX40)
Spares: 3 X Takex180, 5X Paradox DG85 (which we decided not to use)
What we supplied: 2X Optex and 3X Optex BX80, a Wireless Repeater and 23X Paradox door contacts

Findings - The false triggers were as a result of all the beams being left in test mode which makes the beams very sensitive. They were mounted on loose poles and would shine into the air on the one side and into the ground on the other side. The added power supply was unnecessary although it made for a good pigeon nesting area.

We moved a few beams around, fitted 8x extra beams and now the monitoring starts. We generally set the sensitivity high and then will ask clients to monitor over and week or 2 and will then desensitise trigger happy beams.

Job well done today. Pictures will follow next week when we return for a courtesy call.

Hi guys, i trust all is well...

So we had one come back for the construction site job above which we attended to on Monday.

The problem:
False alarms - at least 5 triggers between Friday, 5PM to Monday, 7AM.
The cause : Difficult to explain since we have no footage but my estimations follow;
1. I think we installed one beam(VX40 90 deg beam) in the wrong location - Too sensitive and is exposed to a residential area and could be triggered by cats jumping over. They also have big rats according to the client.
2. Another VX40 was triggered - Here we found a dirt bin placed around 2 metres away to be the possible cause due to visible cat footprints on top
3. A perimeter beam was the biggest problem. The shade cloth they use to cover the mesh fence was not secured and blew around freely which caused the headaches.

Please Note, all of the theories above are assumption and definitely NOT fact. The other possible reason could be the age of the unit itself, most of which look to be quite old.

The solution
We went through all the beams again and adjusted the sensitivity lower and tested.
We moved the VX40 to a cleaner/low traffic area
The bin was moved around the corner.
We advised the client about the shade cloth again(which we did in the first place)

No issues since then and client is happy!
Thanks Mr Client.

Hi guys,

ManTech Security was invited to quote for security needs for an existing client in Constantia. My partner, Gareth went to assist the client with whom he already had a relationship.

The need:
CCTV
Upgrade Paradox MG5050 Alarm
Some automation - view CCTV on cellular phone. Access gate remotely

We then responded with a quotation on the same day which includes the following;
3X Takex 180 beams
2X Paradox NV35 curtain beams
2X Galvanized poles for camera and camera
1X Sherlo TX RX for gate
Provision 16Ch DVR and related equipment
8X Balun sets
7x 2MP Provision bullets
1x 2MP Provision varifocal
1X 24" Hisense LED TV
TV Bracket
10M Extension Lead
10M HDMI cable
1X 16Ch Automation controller (i can reveal the name once i finally send in the application forms)

We went in with a very decent labour rate to secure the job which the client acknowledged without us pointing it out. The key is so that we can get a few systems into the market for reference points. Also to understand how they work and start messing around.
