Manual vs Automatic

Father had an Armstrong Siddely in the early 1950s in England. This had a pre-select box. Move it to first and move off. As soon as you start, move the lever to second. Depress and release the clutch and it shifted to second, and so on

Nice car but the engine cooling system was quite inadequate. Travel more than 50 mph and it overheated

Pre selectors these were common back in the days

Newly ordered car has only 2 gears - reverse and forward.

I had manuals for 22 years, it's definitely more fun. As mentioned it's a better connection with the car. Now, I still like road trips, but the auto gearbox I have is so comfortable and it makes cruise control on longer trips much less of a hassle. Still, would recommend people learn to drive with a manual.

Since some of you guys have a hard-on for CVTs I present you Ian McLaren's review (just dropped) of the Tiggo 7 Pro. He was formerly at CAR Mag for many many years & reckons the Tig (nee VW) has best CVT he has ever experienced.

I don't have a hard on for cvt's. They make me moist. I love them.
