Map softwares with data for S.A.

Heya,

Anyone know of any good map programs (pref freeware) for PPC?
I tried out google maps and after a little hacking an fidlding got it working only to discover that in the US the entire earth is 52 states wide ..eh??
They dont jave any map data for South Africa ...soo I was wondering if anyone is using something that does have SA maps?

google earth does cover south africa, only in satellite mode though

Maporama

Maporama.com has maps for SA. They even do driving directions, and you can export those to your PDA. It's free.

If you can spend a little, Handymap (www.handymap.co.za) looks very nice. Basically like Tomtom, but with SA maps and GPS driving directions. I've used Tomtom, and it's great. Handymap is just over R1000, which is not bad considering what you are getting.

Nice app. Use it quite a lot. The problem with garmin maps is they are huge in file size. The best is to convert the garmin map to *.rus (RUSSA) format which is very small. The app to use is GPSMapedit http://geopainting.com/en/index.html#last

I have used GPSMapedit to convert Garmin Mapsource City Select SA maps to Russa and Navitel format with great success. The converted maps even have a certain degree of city and POI search and navigation.

Yeah, for SA you could do satellite maps which are pretty cool.
