Marconi Firmware Upgrade

I have the ethernet version of the Telkom-supplied Marconi modem. After numerous problems with establishing and keeping a stable link I decided to perform a firmware upgrade ...

The upload of image01.bin worked 100% but as soon as it started to install it, the web interface began to display garbage. I waited, and waited, and waited. Nothing. After a while I did a reset and it came back up as usual and established a link. It seems to be working just as it did before.

However, I can no longer access the web admin interface as I get "Page cannot be found" errors. I figured I would use the telnet interface as a workaround but it seems that the default user/password of root/root does not apply to telnet.

Has anyone experienced this before? Am I using the correct telnet credentials?

I think it's time to buy another router - I'm sick of this worthless garbage that doesn't even appear to be properly documented. I can find next to nothing about it on the web.
 
Hehe...I did the same with my first router. I phoned Marconi and they told me I would have to get a replacement coz the firmware thingemabob was stuffed and could only be fixed by them. I couldn't even connect. So I took it back to tellscum and told them I don't know what happened but it stopped working. So they replaced it. I never tried that again.
 
Strangely enough, the modem has worked almost flawlessly since the upgrade disaster. I cannot access it to configure it in any way at all though.

Anyone know what the default telnet login credentials are?
 
Did you try and tft both images to the router, web upgrade as well ?
I crashed the router twice trying an upgrade, but found resetting to factory default, then powering off for about 20 seconds worked well.
 
Sorry to be reviving an old [ancient xD] thread here... but is there any REMOTE chance you guys still have the firmware upgrade image for this router? The marconi website doesn't exist anymore, and I can't find the file archived on the web _anywhere_. Do you guys maybe know who I can contact? Cheers

I have a folder here called "ADSL Router Firmware 13 Aug 2003" that you can try. I'll filegooi it just now.

Damn, what are the odds ;D Awesome, Thanks dude! So do you know for certain which modem that's for? The one I need to upgrade is a Telkom Marconi Premium Combo. I'm just using the router as a wireless access point & 4-port switch (not using the DSL), but I want to stabilize the temperamental wlan, and I believe the newer firmware does that xD Worth a try I guess ? :]

No I had the original one, the flat beige one with the single ethernet port, no wifi. So it won't be a good idea to try this.

It had "ADSL Router POTS" printed on it.

Ah yes, I have one of those too. If you don't mind still uploading it if you can, I'll update that one too while I'm at it lol

Filegooi now requires registration and the confirmation email isn't coming through. PM me an email address and I'll mail it. 800KB. I see the file date is actually 28 April 2003.
