Marconi Router Firmware, freezing, slow http?

Does anyone know where to get firmware for this stupid marconi 4 port router/modem? This thing is such a p.o.s. After a while http gets REALLY SLOW, it takes 10 seconds to open up the routers own page, and the internet becomes close to unusable!

I don't know if the hardware is just overheating, although it is in an open space. I have to reset the thing way too often, and that doesn't fix the problem most of the time.

Do other people have similar problems?

I wish I could just throw the thing away.

When i run the diagnostic Test I fail 2 of the tests

Checking Circuit 0 for Network Connection
Test ATM OAM Segment Loop Back FAIL
Test ATM OAM End-to-End Loop Back FAIL

Is this normal?

Loop back seg always fails since it is not supported. The end to end should pass, not to sure what it means if it fails tho.. My d-link passes that test. except the segment one. Check your atm settings tho, perhaps you have the wrong settings there though unlikely since you say you were online..

Try 1st reset to factory default, change uname/pwd, check ATM setting: vpi 8/vci 35, UBR, bridge disabl; encap PPPoE LLC. if still fails or page still takes a looong time to load take it back to the CSB/Telkom shop and getta new one . That way you can rule out modem/router/hardware and cable(indoor(dial tone on line)/lightning prot) failure.

Since it takes long for the Router's page to open up it could be the network cable to the router BUT then again it failed a atm test, i'd swop it out(after checking correct settings) and then check. Off hand sounds more like router is fried, hrm chicken and chips.. i'm hungry..

I seem to have the same or similar problem with my crappy Marconi ADSL Router POTS - until a day or two ago, everything seemed to be fine, then I suddenly started having freeze-ups with the Router - after resetting it, it works fine for anything between 5 and 30 mins, before freezing again - the LED's on the Router for the LAN-ACT and DSL-ACT are constantly lit when this freeze occurs, and it does not seem to correct or reset by itself...

I have reset to factory config, but this does not seem to help - at first I thought it may be adware/spyware/virus on the PC, but after doing an extensive scan, this produced not problems - so it must be the Router (or the setup) - none of the settings have been changed from when it was working okay, so I can only assume it is the hardware itself...

I have hunted high and low for the configuration settings for this Router, with no luck, and I think I will have to give in and trash this model and go with the D-Link DSL-504T...I hope it is easier to setup...

Hi All

Not sure if this was just fluke timing, but after much time, trouble and shouting today, I gave up with Telkom when they advised me that it was my ISP who had caused all this problem...they even tried to SELL me a replacement unit when I figured out that my unit had started giving up the ghost (heating up way above normal operating temp) and freezing - "no trade-in" was the answer...

Eventually decided to pop into my supplier and grab a D-Link DSL504T Router (R666.90 incl. VAT) got home, installed the unit, setup the unit via HTTP, and hey presto, in 15 minutes, I had the whole internet and network working again! I am even getting a downstream of 80K and an upstream of 48K! The manuals and steps are very easy to follow and the terms are explained in a way that even to most IT-challenged person could understand (ok, I also used the PortForward.com site for a bit of help ).

After all the time, effort and wasted coffee trying to sort out the Marconi crap, I wish I had made this change much earlier...my advice - make the change to something other than Marconi, you won't regret it...

I think Howard's experience is a lesson to be learnt as far as Routers go.
My Zyxel has not given me one day of grief. Set it up once and been connected ever since.
It took me less than 15 minuites though.

Some people have had success with Marconi Products, but generally the consensus here is, they suck.
Not actually sure why Telkom actually sells them when clearly there is far better quality products available for less money.
