Hi guys

I just got a WRT54GL with DD-WRT.

My setup is as follows:
I've been connecting two laptops to a Marconi router, the really old on Telkom first gave out when they started ADSL in SA. The old beige thing.

I dial up using PPPoE to get net access as its easier for when I have to change accounts (my bro wouldn't be able to do it on the router).

I've just gotten the WRT54GL and wanted to hook it up to the router, but still use PPPoE on the laptops (laptops obviously connected wirelessly).

Was struggling for ever last night to get the second connect wirelessly and when I finally did, i could not dial up to the net, either when connected wirelessly to the Linksys or cabled.

I tried Googling and one suggestion was that the Marconi IP should be set as the Gateway on the Linksys but that did not work either.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys

My experience with WRT54GLs are limited to DD-WRT firmware.

So your marconi needs to be put in bridge mode. You may possibly have to enable the wireless (if any) on the marconi for the laptops to pppoe out.
Your wrt54gl should be dailing the pppoe connection out (with the marconi in bridge mode) in router mode.
I cant remember off hand if the dd-wrt can handle half-bridge mode (ie, you can connect to it wirelessly and do a pppoe session).

If you are trying to handle the pppoe connections from laptops connected to the wrt54gl, some kinda bridge or half bridge mode needs to be enabled, or if your marconi has wireless pppoe through that rather.

The other option I can think of is daisy chain (network cable them together) the marconi to the wrt54gl (ie dont use the wan port), disable dhcp on the wrt and just have it enabled on the marconi.

If the marconi is in bridge mode and plugged into the wrts broadband port then you should be able either dial pppoe from the wrt (just do this as a test) or to turn off pppoe on the wrt and just do it from the laptops. Make sure dhcp is turned on on the wrt.

You're obviously underestimating what I mean by old Marconi.
Its those really really old ones. No wireless, just 4 ports.

Will test tonight when I get home.

Thanks so far guys

Thanks a bunch, this did the trick. Now I can sleep less again :D
