It's difficult to comprehend the pressures at these depths.
 
The indication of the maximum diving depth of the blue whale is incorrect. That's just the typical diving depth.
 
Just imagine what the air pressure would be if the water would be drained from the oceans.
 
I read up a bit on the Trieste bathyscaphe; amazing courage and endeavour, to do that in 1960!
 
Actually, you would have more breath than you would want to have at that depth.

Surely if the all the oceans water was removed, if you were at normal sea level (elevation 0m) the air would be thinner?

Yes, but at the bottom of the trench the pressure should be quite high.
 
Now, add into the mix the subduction of the earth's crust along the plate lines, then use this a method recycling hazardous waste. Of course with suitable containers. (David Brin's Uplift series of books)
