Marthin De Beer is the Senior Vice President of Emerging Business Group at Cisco Systems.

De Beer is responsible for the company’s efforts around end-to-end video, energy and home networking.

The Emerging Business Group represented $5B of Cisco’s revenues in FY’11. De Beer drives Cisco’s Video priority which includes three cross-segment focus areas: Service Provider video, TelePresence and Emerging video. In addition, he is responsible for incubating a steady stream of high growth businesses that can generate $1 billion worth of revenue and take Cisco into new adjacent markets. Under his leadership, Cisco’s TelePresence business has grown from an emerging technology to become the market leader. De Beer was instrumental in Cisco’s successful acquisition of TANDBERG, a global leader in video communications.

Under De Beer’s guidance, Cisco’s pursuit of innovation continues with the Cisco internal Idea Zone (I-Zone) contest, as well as the open, external Innovation Prize (I-Prize) competition. Winning ideas from these contests are selected to become the next Cisco emerging technology.

During his over 16-year tenure at Cisco, De Beer has held various leadership positions, including responsibility for Cisco’s global enterprise IP communications solutions and leading the introduction of Cisco’s Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data (AVVID) solution. He was instrumental in taking Cisco’s IP communications business from inception to a nearly $1 billion business.

Earlier in his career, De Beer was founder of two start-up companies and has held senior marketing and engineering positions at Hughes LAN Systems, Persetel Computer Systems, and Atlas Aircraft.

De Beer is on the Board of Directors for the US Russia Business Council and Singularity University, and is a member of the selection committee for the World Economic Forum, Technology Pioneer Community. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and is also the holder of several technology patents.
