Mid-Engined Maserati Supersportiva Supercar Coming This Year

Maserati is making a comeback and it all starts with a brand new supercar that goes by the name of Supersportiva.

Set to be revealed in May this year, it will join the Trident lineup to take aim at the “junior” supercars from the likes of McLaren, Ferrari and Aston Martin. It will be powered by a mid-mounted V6 initially, with hybrid and fully electric versions to follow.

According to CarMagazine, it will be based on a carbon fibre tub similar to that of the recently discontinued Alfa Romeo 4C sports car and will likely be built on the same line as that Alfa.

The publication claims their sources confirm a V6 powerplant but it is not yet known which engine from the group will be used. The 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 from the Quadrifoglio is an option but apparently not favoured.

About time that Maserati to have a true supercar again. A 2.9V6 4C would be a real monster

Very generic look though. Pretty but basically a McLaren in the front and a ferrari in the back. Hopefully they do something more original.

Spiritual Successor To Maserati MC12 Officially Called MC20

In the middle of the 2000s, Maserati was at the top of the performance mountain with the Ferrari Enzo-based MC12 but fast forward to 2020 and the company is trying to climb back up the mountain and the MC20 is the start (yesterday we posted about it with the Supersportiva name).

We first caught a glimpse of the MC20, which is the spiritual successor to the MC12, in late 2019 via four photos of a test mule released by Maserati themselves.

New Maserati MC20: 2020 sports car named

First new Maserati in five years will arrive in May as the 'natural evolution' of the brand's MC12 supercar

Maserati has confirmed that its new sports car, arriving in May, will be called the MC20.

The firm said it will be a "natural evolution" of the limited-run MC12 supercar – the last model to wear the Maserati Corse badge – and has confirmed that it will "return to the world of racing", with the MC20.

In November, Maserati started testing the powertrain for the car on public roads in a test mule. The Italian firm released a series of shots of a camouflaged machine leaving its Modena factory at night. It says the machine was being used to house a “new powertrain entirely developed and built by Maserati”, that is the first in a new family of engines it is developing.

The firm has yet to confirm any technical details of the car it will unveil in May, although it had been widely expected to be a production version of the 2014 Alfieri concept, which it committed to putting into production in 2018.

The Mid-Engine Maserati MC20 Supercar Should Be A Direct Successor To The Maserati MC12

Maserati hasn’t really done anything interesting since, geez, the Alfieri concept all the way back in 2014. But all of a sudden there’s a new mid-engine supercar on the way called the Maserati MC20, and it’s shaping up to be a direct successor to the MC12.

So far, we’ve seen a development mule of the MC20, and we’ve heard that it’s possibly related to the outgoing Alfa Romeo 4C, which is likely something to do with that car’s carbon fiber structure. Taking parts from another Italian brand to build a supercar? Like the 2004 MC12 using parts from the Ferrari Enzo? Sounds about right.

Much nicer looking the first Maserati MC Hammer they made. What was that one? Clarkson called it an Enzo in drag.

Looks run of the mill.
Nothing special.
Designers have lost their instinct

The upcoming Maserati MC20 is a new MC12 supercar

Maser confirms the name of its new 'super sports car'. Here’s what it follows

You all know that person; the type that somehow navigates any group conversation into something about themselves, no matter the content. Well, today, we at TopGear.com are that person.

Though Maserati is to blame. Much as we’d like to talk about the latest “super sports car” the firm is planning on revealing in May, we can’t, because we only know it’ll be called the Maserati MC20.

So we’re going to briefly talk about the Maserati MC12 instead. Principally because we want to, and also because Maser itself reckons the new MC20 is a “natural evolution” from that amazing supercar.

And what a supercar. The MC12 featured the Ferrari Enzo’s chassis and V12 powertrain, but clothed them both in a slightly bigger body. A really, really good looking one at that, too, designed by one Frank Stephenson. That’s the chap who also did a few McLarens, the Ferrari F430 and even the Fiat 500.

But it will still be slower than a Ferrari. Because in Italy no one can make a car faster than a Ferrari, it is a national crime.
