Mashtastic in SA discussion

Great! You should be able to see the JFK0 - ZS1JFK-BASE node in Stellenbosch.
Will try pick it up when I am in Coetzenburg tomorrow for a run, but looking at the map, it’s probably out of range for me from home, I’m outside of town off the R44 back towards SSW, so there’s a pretty big mountain between us. But one or two well placed solar powered repeaters could sort that out

Had a lot of success this morning using meshtastic to track teams across a wide area. Starting to see more and more use cases, but was also the first time trying to use it linked to an Android device.

Boy is the Android app poor compared to the web client and the IOS app.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a better app to use on Android, that still gets the data packets transmitted by the meshtastic network? Even if you have to link the client to your phone using the meshtastic app, but then use another app to see live tracking of nodes and send messages etc. the android app is simply not user friendly, and can’t be given to someone not tech savvy to just get on with using the device.

You can order from Micro-robotics. they are based in Pretoria and Stellenboch, but ship nationwide with TCG, and their pricing is decent.

Now I am on the hunt for a battery, that will either fit in this case or I will need to 3d print a case to accomodate a bigger battery

bump

We have seen quite a bit of growth over the last couple of months. Currently, there are 80 active nodes.

Cape Town now has a node up on the Du Toit's Kloof mountain. It is reaching sites back in Cape Town and the hope is it may also link up nodes in Worcester. There is already one also on Table Mountain reaching up towards Saldanha, and it looks like the next high site may be by Picketberg.

Howdy Peeps, would that unit be a good starting point? Also would that then pair to the phone and using the App I am set?
Cheers

Very simple yes

BEFORE STARTING UP THE BOOTLOADER - ENSURE THE ANTENNA IS PLUGGED IN - ELSE YOU RISK BURNING OUT THE BOARD

You can also buy them directly from smartcasa ... https://www.smartcasa.co.za/products/seeed-studio-xiao-meshtastic-node.

I'm using one of those nodes with a yagi to connect from Kraaifontein to Hawequas (40km).

Howdy All, I been going through a few Youtube's of people range testing Meshcore/Meshtatic devices and seen everyone has a multiple extra nodes.

I missed a sale on Carbonite last Wednesday someone sold a [Heltec WiFi LoRa 32 V3 (433 - 510MHz)] for R300

TLDR: Anyone in CPT with a spare or cheap board for me to play with, once I got the hang of it I would enjoy investing in the solar/battery backup units.
