hey guys.

i recently got mass effect 2, but have a problem entering the quarantine zone where you have to go recruit the professor. ever time i try enter the area after talking to the gaurd, the game will go to a black screen and just stay like that.

just want to know if anyone knows a solution? Thanks in advance.

Specs : intel core 2 duo E8400 @ 3.00 ghz
2 Gigs DDR3 1333mhz
Gainward 9800GT 512mb DDR3

Have you got the most recent patch? Also what about the updated NVidia driver?

I found some info here:
Problem #5 : Mass Effect 2 Black Screen Problem / Mass Effect 2 Black Screen on Startup/Midgame then Crash to Desktop
Fix 1: If you have forced Vsync to OFF in your video card settings (Nvidia Cpanel or ATI Catalyst), then set it to Auto/Default or ON. Try whichever one works
Fix 2: Install the latest video Card drivers available for your Graphics Card

You can also try this.

I am running windows 7. My graphic drivers are up to date, updated them this morning. None of those solutions worked:erm:

Didn't have a single glitch all the way through on Win7 with core2duo / nvidia (196.34 drivers), would suggest testing the following:

Set your game gfx quality to lowest - if no go, highest.

In your nVidia Control Panel:
Antialiasing Transparency : Off

Failing that, reinstall the game.
Just incase, backup your saved games / profile which is stored here:
C:\Users\Rectro\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\Save

Hope you get it sorted, definitely one of the best games i've played in a long time. Finished it Friday, epic stuff.. Really looking forward to ME3.

Thanks for replies guys. i tried turning transparency off and re-installing the game. Yes the game is original... This is beyond fail, looks like an amazing game

No crashes at all on 2 play throughs. Only real glitch I ran into was floating in the air on occasion. Quicksave saved my ass on those occasions.

That seems to be a glitch with the game itself, it happened to me a few times on Xbox.

Only noticed this thread now :erm:

I had the exact same problem as the OP... I could hear sound, it just wouldn't display anything - In the end I reinstalled and it worked fine after that...
