Massive drop in smartphone sales

Global shipments of smartphones fell in the first quarter at the fastest rate on record, illustrating the devastating impact of Covid-19 on consumption and production in the critical segment of the technology industry.

Shipments totaled about 275 million in the first three months of the year, according to market trackers Strategy Analytics and IDC, which estimate the decline from the same period in 2019 at 17% and 11%, respectively.

Maybe related to the "Massive" price of high end phones these days? Maybe Huawei sales suffered from not having GMS?
Seems mid range phones still selling well though

Yeah no 20k for a phone, where you can get a decent midrange from 5k.

I would have gotten the Sony Xperia XZ2 in March, but my slackness and the corona virus ended that idea.

I tried, but was told it was cancelled for vetting. Apparently I couldn't afford it sigh.

Wasn't only due to covid, it was already projected to start falling soon as upgrade fatigue set in, there really isn't that much difference between decent phones that are near 2 years old and modern one for a majority of people.

I'm still super happy with my Nokia 7 Plus, so far no lag experience, getting security updates, camera is decent enough (especially with Gcam), aux port, decent display, battery life etc.

I don't think I'll upgrade before Nokia drops security patch support unless something drastically changes in the handset market.

I've been there, Cell C once rejected me for a R99 per month contract.

I'm not planning on getting rid of my Nokia1 anytime soon. Nice, cheap and reliable little phone that does everything I need
