Massive e-toll discounts are here

At most how much can one small car incur in etolls per month ?

The cap has been reduced to R225 http://www.sabinetlaw.co.za/presidency/articles/monthly-cap-e-tolls-reduced meaning if 1 000 000 cars pay the cap that is 225 000 000 rands a month for the gvt , enough for the government to pay for free education for all. All this money is more than enough to pay for highway upgrades considering upgrading is something done once every couple of years.

R225 million per month doesn't come close to covering the cost of upgrading and maintaining road infrastructure. In another article it was stated that the N1/N2 Winelands upgrade (175km) would requires R10 billion.

The govt spent R20bn to upgrade freeways fro 8 years up to 2013. The most the govt has received from etolls is R120m in June 2014. R20bn divided by R120M is equal to 166 months ie 14 years or more to settle the bill. Why are people against etolls ?

How about, when the new roads were announced, there was NO mention of them being tolled. That came later when someone figured out that there would be gravy with tolls.

No, they'll be around for at least another couple of years.

It all depends on the rate of diminishing revenue.
They need cut their losses sooner rather than later because they know they'll never turn this around.

This "massive" discount shows how desperate they are to get people to sign up

Give it 6 months.

The govt always gets its way , especially when dealing with the docile middle class who happens to be most affected by etolls directly that is. Everyone will eventually pay etolls , the secrecy bill will be implemented the least goes on and on. The problem i have with etolls is that they should have put a couple of cents on top of the fuel price not etolls which enrich a European company.

I think you need to go through some of the historical threads on this forum, you couldn't be further off the mark

House, is that you?

Is it only state institutions that function on a backwards basis? Who on earth would spend money on advertising when it's clearly you have a failed business model?

Why?

1. Everytime you fill-up your car, you pay a "road levy", which currently stands at R1.54/L. So every time I fill up, I pay R107.8 towards the road levy. Let's say 1million cars fill up, once per month, with an average of 50L tank, that would amount to R77 million for the road fund, per month. That's almost R1bn/month.
The volume of total petrol and diesel usage in the country increased by 1% to 22,9 mega litres for the period April 2014 to March 2015. That's R35,266,000 from April 2014 to March 2015!

A friend of mine owns a garage and he mentioned one day that he only gets R1/L for petrol & diesel. The rest goes to government.
2. The government went ahead with this project, without the majority's input. IF the majority of road users knew what this "investment" would cost them in the next 5 years they wouldn't have agreed to go ahead with the project.
3. Government pensioner's money was stolen (borrowed?) without the knowledge for this
4. Bribes
5. Corruption

Why are you "for" the etolls?
