MateBook X Pro - Hands on

Huawei recently launched its powerful premium laptop - the MateBook X Pro - in South Africa.

This formidable machine stands at the top of the MateBook lineup, which also includes the MateBook D14 and D15.

It's not yet in physical stores yet. Why then advertise it.

Build-in Chinese backdoor, never will this be allowed in our company or subsidiaries

These looked appealing in this form factor class...but after that apple M1 launch...idk.

Prefer windows/linux machines but holy hell that M1 smoked everything.

No more than the other 20 chinese made laptops in your office. Presumably you're wiping all laptop completely on arrival anyway...leaving just the hardware...all china.

I imported the Gen8 model a year or so ago and it's an excellent Windows laptop. Screen (especially) , keyboard and touch pad are all great. I'm just disappointed they didn't innovate more with this revision. It's a carbon copy of the old one, except for the upgraded CPU and the 1TB SSD...

I'm not sure with the webcam in the keyboard looking up your nostrils.

One needs to shop around. The screen card (chip) at this price simply won’t do.

My Acer A515 might have an older MX150, but with a 500 gig SSD and 20 gig of memory, this workhorse is a beast. Got it for just over 8 grand two years ago. There are a few such deals floating around for around the 10-12 k mark.

I don't see how laptops with such tiny power budgets can be called "professional"

Its such a waste of very expensive silicon. Most Intel laptops would offer much better value at 0.5cm thicker and 400g heavier.

If you want this form factor, go with an apple M1. It's silicon is at least designed for that from factor.

If I was going to get a small powerful laptop, the only choice would be the Apple M1 series Macbooks. It's price to performance is completely unrivaled in the category.
