Where can i buy a math literacy handbook with questions and answers preferably in afrikaans? My daugter failed maths this term and i want to help her. Please help

Try rulerite, they often have books like that. Also, speak to your child's maths teacher, they can point you in the direction of a book that fits their curriculum and advise you what to concentrate on.

Its not an instantaneous solution, since she'll need help understanding the foundations of the problem she's having first, but some parental assistance doesn't (generally) hurt. Good on you for being willing to assist!

try red pepper books

didn't know it was possible to fail maths literacy, change schools

I don't know if you're looking for advice on this issue, but for the love of all that is holy, do NOT enrol her for math literacy. It's better to get an E or possibly a D for math than to enrol for math literacy. Many university faculties do not accept students who have done math lit, even if passed with a distinction.

An example would be my university's computer science dept which would accept a D for maths, but don't accept math lit at all.

In my opinion it's better to bring in some extra help in the form of a tutor and scraping through it.

EDIT: I hope I understood the problem correctly, in the sense that she's currently taking Math but wants to switch to Math Lit?

I'm a high school pure mathematics teacher, I would recommend the Answer Series. They are very good.

If she can't pass math literacy, real math might be a step too far. Unless she failed for other reasons.

the answer series is really good, I used to use them for practice before an exam :)

This ^^^^^^

designed purely to score more points but utterly useless.

What other subjects is your daughter doing?

Unfortunately she has math literacy and still struggle. Some people find maths extremely difficult to master and shes one of them.

Maybe her forte is not maths. I was good at maths at school and wife is an draughtsman, but both daughters terrible at maths. Good in other subjects though - psychology, history. It would be boring if we were all the same.

For the love of all that's holy, it's maths.

And yeah, rather get a tutor in and start focusing on it a bit more than the subjects that she's good at. It's really not one of those things where you either have it or you don't - the difference with maths is that you need to practise it a lot to start getting better at it. So in that regard, some people require less practise than others, but IMO everyone has the ability to pass matric maths.

Sorry, but then she only has to spend a bit more time on it; maybe get a tutor. Math Lit is fairly simple and very basic. It's about 10% as difficult as the old SG standard. I think the most complex part of Math Lit is the growth/decay formula (compound interest formula).

Nothing wrong with her doing math (math and maths are equally excepted abbreviation for mathematics, here math seem to fit in better) literacy. She probably don't want to do something at varsity that requires maths in any case, but every one needs some sort of math literacy. It might be difficult for some people on here to understand as we are mostly in some sort of scientific field which require mathematics.

There is good books at CNA (can't really remember the name), any one would really do. All that is needed is repetition of problems till she is comfortable with it.
