I've never seen anything above 52KB, even when using segmented downloads pulling the file from various mirrors.

I'm just curious, has anyone ever experienced anything above 52KB (kilobytes/s ) when downloading - 416kbps?

I've got 55kb/s before, but that is absolute maximum!
And people want Sentech to guarentee bandwidth when their ADSL has never even hit 512kbps before. BAH! [;)]

I can't say that I recall seeing anything above these figures either, using diverse Gentoo Linux mirrors internationally via their 'portage' tree for OS and application updates (also segmented)...

When I first got ADSL more than 2 years ago, I managed to do 60Kb/s it has been on a decrease ever since currently maxing on 52Kb/s

Network congestion? I think not...

iv got 60kbs local, international is another story

You'll never get a download at 512Kbps over a 512Kbps line. There are all sorts of ATM / TCP / IP / Ethernet / etc. packet / frame overheads. For example, you can only get about 60Kbps on a 64Kbps ISDN line, and that's under almost perfect conditions. ADSL has more "nesting"; if you're doing PPPoE, your data is being nested in (say) TCP packets. Those in turn, are embedded in IP packets; then PPP, embedded in Ethernet frames, and then finally carried in ATM packets to the BRAS servers. (Well, something like that, anyone more knowledgable feel free to correct me.) Anyhow, my point is just that you'll never ever see 512Kbps on any 512Kbps line. Around 55 - 60 KB/sec is probably the theoretical maximum.

ive got up to 60 kb/s but not higher.
you should not be able to achieve more than this on a 512 kbs downstream line. Basicly all you do is : youdownstream bitrate / 8. This Gives you 64 so that is the utter max you will ever get.
