I have an HP Envy 17 laptop with a Radeon 6800M Adapter. It has both DP and HDMI ports and 1 GB of video RAM. It gets used for software development and not gaming.

I currently use it with one Dell U2515H (2560 x 1440) monitor and an Acer with 1920x1200 and that works no problem. I just love that Dell monitor so much that I am considering getting a second one to replace the Acer screen.

Does anyone know if I might experience problems connecting this to two Dell U2515H monitors? I am worried that the graphics card might not be powerful enough to support 2 Dells at 2560 x 1440 resolution.

Thanks,
Russell.

Dell is connected to DP and Acer to HDMI?

1. You need a HDMI 1.3 interface for 2560x1440
2. Many laptop manufacturers restrict the resolution of the HDMI interface to a lower resolution internall 1080/1200p.

Does the Dell work at 2560x1440 on the HDMI interface?
If your GPU supports VSR try setting it to 2560x1440 for the 1200p display, this will render internally at the higer resolution and the downscale it for the actual display so you can test if it can handle it running both at 2560x1440 simultaneously.

The best test would be if you could loan another monitor to test with.

Google results from the HP support site seem to indicate HDMI version 1.4 supporting 1920 ×1200 @ 60Hz for the Envy 17 so you might just be schite out of luck.

Thanks for the reply Ponder.

Yes, the Dell is connected using DP and Acer to HDMI as you say. I do think there may be an issue getting another Dell to connect using HDMI at the higher resolution, but it seems that I can use the DP to "chain" two Dells together, so I am thinking that this will work provided my graphics card supports it?

Did not even think of that. Think it requires DP1.2

Do you have the full model number for your laptop?
