I'm having a few problems accessing files in My Documents, I was wondering if there was a size limit for the folder or something like that?

ATM:

34.5GB

18,525 files

Could this be causing any ***? It is all very well organized. Cheers.

Well on a 512mb HDD you could run into some problems, but otherwise I don't think so, I've had more than that in my My Documents folder before without any problems.

It's all on c:, when I open the folder it just hangs, if I press Ctrl Alt Del it shows that explorer is using 99% of the CPU.

You may find it's generating thumbnails, and is having problems reading a particular file.

Yeh once you open my documents try changing the view quickly to list view or something other than Thumbnails. I think that will sort the problem

You could boot a Linux CD to access the disk, what I have done is share a windows folder on the network, then delete the Thumbs file as Linux displays it.

Toilet Duck, based on your computer's specs, I am surprised that anything works! I won't run/keep important stuff on that computer if I were you, you are bound to lose it all sometime soon. You are warned, hoping you keep backups!

lol yeh. would like to a machine like that, oldest running one I have is a p166 with 42mb ram, 4G disk. I was thinking of overclocking the hell out of it, and cooling it in mineral oil.

this is noprmally caused by a bad divx decoder, trying to generate a thimbnail for an avi file and hanging, taking explorer.exe with it.

uninstall your divx decoder, then go grab something decent, like ffdshow, and the problem will disappear.

trust me, i used to know a guy who knew a doctor

Thanks for all the advice, I copied all the contents to a new folder and now it's working 100s.

My oldest machine is an AMD 386 DX 40 with 8MB RAM and has a 512 HDD with Windows 3.11and plenty old DOS games. The worst setup I ran was a 386 SX25, 4MB RAM and Windows 95!
