If I Wanted To Get myself A Rx7 Here in SA would I be A Idiot Or Not? I Noticed A Few Online But They are All Modified and ruined. Could I import a standard ish one or should I rather forget about it and get a Subaru?

Also are parts somewhat available?

I have heard that since the split between Ford and Mazda, Mazda parts costs have risen significantly, in some cases even quadrupled. Perhaps look into this before going the Mazda route.

I believe Subarus are very solid vehicles (general consensus of people I have spoken to, and various threads on various forums I have read): many miles of driving pleasure. However, I don't know what parts replacement costs for Subaru are. Perhaps look into this as well.

I Understand That Mazda and Subaru parts are going to be expensive but I am willing to spend lots on it, reasonably so.

What do you mean by not modded?

RX7's come standard with Turbos and all the bells and whistles. Just a few things you need to know before buying a Rotary:

1. Apex seals - Learn to know what they are, how much work it is to replace them and how much they cost ;)
2. They are heavy on fuel. If you think a V8 is heavy on fuel, rather just don't buy it.
3. It's a Horsepower care not a Torque car. (Horsepower is how fast you hit a wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you when you do)

They are super amazing engines and a hell of a lot of fun to drive. But if you want to enjoy it for how brilliant it is you need to understand it. Make an informed decision and you will never regret it. You will become a rotary head :p

Buying a RX-7 is like marrying the most beautiful woman in the world, sure shes and absolute beatch and will bankrupt you completely and leave you broke and living on the street... but you just can't help yourself. It's the ride... you simply can't help yourself.

Only buy an RX-7 if you're willing to sacrifice everything... EVERYTHING you know and love.

Get an RX-8 if you want to sacrifice most of what you have... They are jealous and will poison your world, you will never look at another car the same way again.

LOL, it's not really that bad. but it comes very close.

They are full of shyte if you don't treat them right. And if you hurt them they punish you hard.

Yea, I can see the comparison :D

I kept going back to test drive an RX-8 over and over and over and over again for months on end. It was a very wealthy guy's car that he was trying to sell... One day his wife came out while we were ready to drive off again and she screamed: "I WONT HAVE THAT THING IN MY HOUSE!"

That was my wakeup call... I was in love but I wasn't willing to lose my then newly wed wife for a fling. I got a Mazda 6 instead.

On a side note he treated that car better than himself or his wife, the garage had beautiful tiles and mirrors so the car could see itself... these cars are so vain... but only because they can back it up. Oh he also had professional photos of the car in the garage for the car to look at.

Subaru parts are a problem - there never stock the parts locally so most of the time you have to wait 3 weeks for them to be imported for Japan. However its worth the wait. You never get tied of the gold rims and huge wing :D
