Good day, Gents and Ladies.

I want to buy Mazda CX-5 individual or Akera. I see dealers propose MY15 instead of MY16.
Does somebody know is there any difference in components, improvements done after initial sales start?
Thank you.

The CX-5 latest generation is fairly recent still, I'd be very surprised if a current generation MY15 has been updated at all for MY16 unless a specific problem was identified. More likely the dealer just wants to sell you the more expensive option ... wait they suggest MY15? yeah that's odd unless MY16 is hard to come by

Test drove a Akera in November, great SUV!

Superb vehicle choice - I test drove the CX5 2.2d Akera and new Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T Dual clutch version back to back during the weekend and Mazda will be receiving my money instead of Hyundai.

The Tucson looks really good but is very noisy and unrefined at high RPM's, whilst the fact that the proper display unit will set me back an additional R15k+ also turned the scale into the Mazda's favour. It is a real douche move by Hyundai to install a 1996 lookalike display unit in a R500k vehicle, whilst the CX5 Akera comes standard with all of those things.

I asked that question the dealership and they say all CX-5's come with this remark MY15. The latest they received in Feb taht was manufactured in Dec 15. That makes sense taking into account that all the Mazdas imported and with shipping and customs clearance it will take two three month to pass.

Another thoughts before the purchase - what to buy - individual 2.5 or diesel 2.2.
I will need AWD probably once a year or two. What buys my attention and brings unclearness is the torque available on diesel but is it worth of additional R48K on my proposition?

Please, advise.
I'll probably will try to test-drive diesel as I drove only petrol 2.5.

I'm biased against ever owning a FWD car again, so for me there is only one option really, I'd go as far as saying I'd rather buy a lesser spec model from a lesser brand to get AWD if money is an issue. If you really need AWD even once a year there is only one option for you too when it comes to the CX-5 ;)

The test drive is the only way to make the call for yourself though, the diesel obviously behaves differently and the AWD also changes the road holding dynamics even on normal roads, make sure to push it a bit in corners ;)

Why if it is not a secret?
I personally never owned diesel or AWD.
On the test drives they give "around the corner" you can't understand a lot but I've also managed to figure out that new Tucson is not an option for me...

No secret, just personal preference, I've had my fair share of FWD sporty cars to try and no matter how sophisticated they get (I'd rate Audi is by far the best in the FWD game) I always feel that hint of torque steer during hard acceleration and when you push them hard you feel that underlying under-steer around corners.

I've gotten very used to and comfortable with the contrast you get from RWD: lighter steering as there's nothing driving those wheels, no torque steer of course, and when you reach the limits it will over-steer rather than under-steer more readily which is more fun. Oh and even without traction control enabled it won't spin the wheels for no reason under heavy acceleration as the weight shifts to the wheels doing the work instead of away from it.

Never owned AWD, but the modern systems with their torque vectoring can pretty much give you the best of all worlds so I'm a big fan of the concept. Of course for any real type of off-road excursion AWD is by far the superior choice for grip in adverse conditions.

I've also never owned a diesel, that's why I tested quite a few of them recently while checking out SUV's to see if I can cope with how it delivers power compared to my relatively sporty 160kw 2.5l petrol engine. I reckon I'd be happy with the diesel CX-5, it is very spirited ;)

I so love the CX-5. I will get the 2.5 when I have the money.

Tried today Akera. Drove roughly 5km and haven't felt the difference... Will go to the dealer after holidays and decide there... Looks like my current car has a buyer that is interested, so I'll ride a bicycle :)
