Hi Everyone,

Stuck between a rock and a hard place, had to close my design and laser cutting/engraving/printing business last year due to COVID and the economic climate. Currently doing an admin job on a contract basis, to pay some of the bills. I have about 8 years of general network support (basic support) and some graphic/web design.
I'm currently 43 and looking into doing some studying to try and get a better job in IT.

I'm looking at doing an MBA in information systems, but cannot afford to waste money, would it be better to rather do an IT qualification of some sort. Obviously, the younger generation has the edge on me in terms of current technology.

My question is MBA or an IT qualification in cloud or cyber security.

Looking forward to the expert advice, please.

Thank you in advance.

Thanks, J

Usually an MBA (which is a masters degree level) requires you to have at least a bachelors degree in a related field.

Is it possible to provide a link to the the MBA course?

You would need to decide your area of specialisation/focus as IT is extremely broad (just off the top of my head you have the following, each requiring very different skills):
- IT function/dept management (so more budgets, people management etc)
- Hardware (desktop support)
- Network support
- IT audit
- Cybersecurity
- Software engineering
- Web design
- Solution architect
- Infrastructure architect
- Data analytics / Big data / Data science
- ERP systems implementation
- IT project management
etc...

Hey there,

MBA information systems through Unicaf University. Attached are the modules

Thanks JScreenshot_20210208_075256_com.android.chrome.jpgScreenshot_20210208_075250_com.android.chrome.jpg

Unicaf looks a bit dodge. It doesn’t even show up on most rankings I tried. The only one I found ranked it as 9179th in the world.

I've never heard of Unicaf. I see that course is presented out of Malawi.

IMHO I would rather do a course/degree through UNISA.

Thanks guys, I went and did some thorough research on this and checked with SAQA they not accredited in South Africa. So decided I will give it a miss.

Next Question I have as is there still time for me a 40yo to get into the cloud computing world. Was an IT support/network manager 12 years back. But stopped all that and started my own little business that Covid 19 broke. Currently sitting in an admin contract job, which stress is not worth the pay. I want to study something in cloud computing so that I can earn a salary I can live off and grow into an IT Wizz but doing my creative design as a sideline. Any advise as to watch direction I can go for studying?

One thing to remember about an MBA - they don't call it the divorce course for nothing. A proper one will take up ALL your time and stress you out immensely.

I am 46, got my AWS cloud certification late last year. It's never too late. Do some udemy courses, get certified, and get going. Cloud is new enough and moving fast enough that it's not like people have a HUGE head start on you.

Any particular Udemy or cloud online course you can recommend want to start getting them fast now...

Pick aws or azure or gcp and then watch for courses on special for the ones of your choice.

I used acloudguru for my aws.

Hi mr_jmdk, what have you decided MBA or IT qualification? I am currently saving up the registration fees at Unisa MBA for 2022, which is R 70 k upfront, mind you Mancosa, regent are cheaper however I was looking to the creditation eg Unisa has few ranking higher, than the others is you know UCT,Stellies are the best, hence the time factor, but they have a great reputation amongst any employer.Just my 2cents
