The Public Protector has found that a trip taken by Fikile Mbalula to Dubai in 2017, when he was the minister of sports and recreation, was paid for by a company that does business with sport governing body Sascoc, creating a conflict of interest.

Speaking during the release of a number of her office's investigations on Wednesday, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane said Mbalula violated the Constitution and the Executive Members Ethics Code by having Sedgars sporting goods supplier pay for this holiday.

The Public Protector did also not accept Mbalula's claims that he did not know about Sedgars Sport, as he has known Dockrat, the director of the company, for many years.

Mkhwebane did not take remedial action against Mbalula as he is no longer a member of the executive.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day?

Not that I would ever stand up for Fikile, but this is the Public Protector we are speaking about here and I think a third neutral party needs to relook the investigation and see if they would come to the same conclusion. I very much have no faith in her abilities in her current position.

If the PP is making these claims that "the constitution has been violated (against Ms. Zille & Mr. Mbalula so far), then why doesn't she forgoe the announcement and just do her job?

Her job is to prosecute, just in case Ms. Mkhwebane might be reading this....

Public Protector is not the NPA.

Interesting.... Since Zille is not part of the executive, does she get the same result?

Violate the Constitution and not so much as a warning. Resist paying e-tolls and face prosecution.

I remember Mbalula denying Sedgars paid for the holiday and claiming it was funded from his family's resources. Now he's claiming it was a loan.
