Mbeki explains ADSL plan

Nah, useless, the lot of them.

Esther Dyson, chairperson of venture capitalist firm EDventure Holdings and a member of the Presidential Advisory Council, added that consumers needed to be entrepreneurial by buying and reselling broadband.
and this is going to do exactly what? Buy some bandwidth from Telkom, add markup and resell,, nope not cheaper, bye bye.

“Though there was a sense of urgency on the behalf of the government, competition must come from the customer,” she noted.
Was there booze at this event?

Each time that architect of Digital Apartheid i.e. Mbeki speaks about high prices in telecoms then NOTHING happens regarding it for at least a year. Here's looking forward to another year of unchanged highest in the world prices.

How else do you get them there ? :D

They should combine their ADSL & Crime plans. Give everyone very very cheap broadband, then you'll have less criminals on the street. (They'll all be surfing pr0n.) :D

Does the JITB even know what he is talking about? or was he reading from a memo given to him by Ivy?

What a lot of drivel. He seems to know as much about broadband as he does about HIV/AIDS.

“We have not made much of a significant dent on the pricing of telecoms and broadband as we still need to build infrastructure and establish competition through the SNO [second national operator],” he said.

FFS. Dumb and dumber. Spoken like a man who doesn't pay his own phone bill.

Establish infrastucture? Ya, right.

<vomit>

Make it free for all market and you'll see prices drop.
Open the market, open the market, open the market. OPEN THE MARKET!!.

WTF does Esther Dyson know - and why is she sitting on the Presidential Council? - FFS - she doesn't pay local telco bills.

>bunch of crack addicts it seems<

Thank g0d they have a plan. Rest easy everyone. The crisis is over.

Mbeki is not explaining the ADSL plan here. He's giving excuses why there isn't one.

“We are always open to anything that can be done to make broadband affordable.”

If your share in Telkom is really "on behalf of the people of South Africa" do something that will be beneficial to the general public and dont just sit back and rake in the profits.

Ok, so now it's our fault we have highest telecom's prices in the world? Figures.
