99% of the people on Digg don't know where SA is and even fewer care about it or it's president.

Is it true what someone posted in the comments, that Mbeki did this on purpose? I'd believe that, I don't honeslty think he didn't know about tik.

It is apparently a major problem in our country. The very least he should be is informed of what it is and why its a problem, wouldn't you think?

Yep, I agree, and while I have heard of 'tik' many times, I did not know that it is actually the same as crystal meth, but whichever way one looks at it, on numerous levels Mbeki is definitely not in touch with what is happening in SA.

The way I understood it was that Mbeki wanted a detailed breakdown of what Tik is. He definately has heard of it before but was not clued up on the details of the drug's effects or to the exact damages the drug is having on society.

So the President asked for an explanation of what Tik is, it seems clear from the speech that he understands what a massive problem drug abuse is in the country, and recognises stratgies aimed at reducing it, he also called on organisations like the ANC Youth League to play a part in trying to solve the problem.

Is it expected of the President to be up to date with every slang word used by kids today.

The article also shows that the Premier could quickly explain what it is, prolly said something like, It's a form of crystal meth sir, and that was it.

The question shows that the President has some intellect ( willingness to learn ) not that he is stupid
