Pretoria - Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni failed to collect a memorandum from union members picketing outside the bank's offices in Pretoria on Wednesday, the bank said.

"The governor was in a meeting... the monetary policy committee is meeting today [Wednesday] and tomorrow [Thursday]," SARB spokesperson Brian Hoga told Sapa.

The National Union of Metalworkers of SA said it was "disgusted" that the governor had not appeared, and instead sent a representative to collect the memorandum.

"This sort of unacceptable behaviour by individuals from the ranks of our ANC-led national liberation movement must be dealt with rigorously. The union shall take up this issue," president Cedric Gina said.

According to Gina, the memorandum stated that internationally there had been a much more robust approach to the lowering of interest rates than there had been at the SARB.

It has already been stated that Mboweni's job is safe. These NUMSA idiots obviously don't realise the importance of MPC, especially in this global economic meltdown.

Should the Governor leave this extremely important meeting just to receive a memorandum? These guys are striking and handing out memorandums every day, he wouldn't be able to do his job! :D

In fact, keeping the interests rates up so high for so long might be what actually saved the South African economy and many, many jobs.

These guys want to hand over a memorandum to tell Mboweni to lower interest rates whilst he is in a meeting to lower interest rates? Stupidity knows no bounds.

NUMSA needs to grow up and shut up...

They're not important enough to drag Tito out of an MPC meeting....

If Tito 'disgusts' the workers, then imagine what us honkies do to their sensitivities...

:D:p:D:p:D:p:D

I love how they moan right after having voted their beloveds back into power...

There was an absolute winner of a situation in the Transkei last week where residents boycotted voting stations and stopped others from voting to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with service delivery in the area...

/facepalm

I think I like Tito more now. All the unions should be ignored, bloody fools think they run the country.

Love him or hate him, Tito's policies have seen SA through hard times before.

We might not get all the good stuff during the good times, but when the stinky stuff hit the fan, we don't get into as much crap as the rest of the world.

So in my books, he's ok. :)

Even when in the states, I've never heard it being said.
I haven't heard it in the UK either..

;)

You watch waaay too much TV.

:)

Its a term for a redneck (as in "you know you're a redneck when...") in the deep south of the US and A.

My daddy just got himself a new Cadillac, everytime he blows the horn it goes "Hoooooonkey! Hooooooonkey!"
