Johannesburg - Former SA Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni's appointment as AngloGold Ashanti's new chairperson was a reward for having protected the interests of "male white capital", the ANC Youth League said on Wednesday.

"Tito Mboweni's appointment into a mining corporation is not at all surprising and reflects the reactionary, nonsensical and backward views he expressed when he was the mis-Governor of the South African Reserve Bank that Mines will not be nationalised in South Africa," it said in a statement.

"There is no doubt that Tito Mboweni was speaking the views of white capitalists, like those who did in the recent past, which controls the South African economy... particularly the extraction, processing and trade of minerals."

Mboweni's appointment, or any other "amount of diversions - including by co-opted black reactionaries, would not deter the ANC Youth League from forging forward with the nationalisation of mines", it said.

"The nationalisation of mines is the key towards decisive and radical economic transformation which will benefit all South Africans, particularly the working class and the poor.

"That is why the national general council in September 2010, the national conference of the ANC in December 2012 will resolve on the nationalisation of mines. Enrichment of few individuals will never assist majority of our people (sic)," it said.

Mboweni's appointment takes effect from June 1 2010. He succeeds Russell Edey.

Mboweni has also been appointed as the chairperson of packaging group, Nampak. He succeeds outgoing chairperson Trevor Evans from June 1.

Ironic, if one considers that Tito is currently in court on racism related charges. Maybe Malema should read more of the news.

.
Funny how any decision (even by a black person) that is contrary to the ANCYL is seen as "supporting the white capatilists". The reason why ANCYL is so peeved is that Malema wasn't given the chance to add another company to his profile of companies.

Even the fact that Tito, a black supporting ANC was awarded the position of chairperson of AngloGold, its STILL not enough. You wanted BEE/AA, you got it. And your STILL not happy?

You #$@%! bastards.

Does this mampara not realise that there is a black man sitting on top of every mining organisation, you cannot get a mining license by not having a black partner!, All he wants is the state to control it so he can use his influence to get his claws in mining!, This guy is barking up the wrong tree and is gonna get taken out!

Also one of the only Black Billionares in SA owns (I repeat OWNS) African Rainbow Minerals... Will he (Patrice Motsepi) want to give away his billions for malema ??

I swear that the ANC YL can only focus on one thing at a time: for the next five years it's going to be "nationalise the mines" until they get bored. Rather that than anything else, I guess.

The only consolation is that the capitalists and mining houses will always have money on their side... and you can do quite a lot with money.

The ANC YL members will always have their shacks.... until they finally get fed up with their hypocritical leaders like Malema who preach socialism but secretly are making themselves rich on capitalism.

For vehement socialists their leader seems to be quite a capitalist, meanwhile the communist party does not seem to support nationalisation.

....

I get the impression it's everyone for themselves in the political sphere. It's become a money game and self enrichment program.
