MBP - Core 2 Duo pricing

It isn't fair to compare Makro, Incredible Con or the others to an Apple shop. These outlets are reknowned for selling old models. Perhaps if you went into an Acer dealer in Europe you would see the direct equivalents for all Core Duo/Solo products.
There isn't an equivalent to a real Apple Store. You think Acer could come up with something like this? ;)

Agreed, but I think all the glitz is OTT.

Apple Centre in the Waterfront is similar to some Euro stores.

Now that Apples are nearly identical to PCs in hardware, the gloss is superfluous. Do we need to pay extra for the image?

It may be (debatably) identical but it's in no way generic - otherwise OsX would run on any and all machines. To many, the Os is an integral part of being a Mac user.

Bob & neio, you both have it wrong. It was through my package (±R300 per month out of my pocket), BUT I left the company after having my MBP for 3 months, nobody wanted to take it over, so I had to fork out the settlement amount, which was ±R32k :(
Holy crap! That is a lot Landy!

My Dell is well below 32K (more than 5K below), with better specs than the 17" MBP Core2Duo quoted above.

Better specs? Have you got some OsX benchmarks so I can compare?

BTW - the za price for the MBP is under r25k which is apparently more than 2k below your dell. ;)

Come now KD, we all know my costs include Office:Mac and settlement penalty fees :p Dell Schmell!

No, no benchmarks yet. Haven't even got around to installing all my apps yet. :(

Care to draw me a picture about how the lower price for the MBP (@ under R25k) fits in with what I said?
Of course it should be cheaper, it does not have the same specs.
For 2; my LCD and GFX is better ;) :D

PS> Notice how vague I was with the "more than 5k below" comment... *hint hint*
Couldn't let Landy feel too bad, how could I?? :p

He's not going to feel bad - you bought the Dell not him. ;)

PS - NB what I said about providing the specs :D

No worries KD, I know you just jealous! :p

ROFL @ bwana. Even though I am using a Dell now, at least I didn't pay for it :D

You right, I am jealous of the mericans and eurosians that can actually buy a Dell XPS system with a 30" LCD.
Not in SA :(

Well I hope you're using protection
You guys are in such denial. ;) MACs also blew. AND reports have been made available that security flaws and vulnerabilities are on the UP on OSX. :D

PS - NB what I said about providing the specs
Have provided it already in at least 2 other threads. DO a search, use the Google one :p

Really - you did benchmarks of OsX running on your Dell? I'll go look for the threads then - thanks.

And I agree - a couple proof of concept vulnerabilities are something to be concerned about

No, not benchmarks for that! You crazy!!
You must really stop with your ambiguous posts. ;)

And, don't roll your eyes at me boy! :D

BTW, saw you have been X'd. You liking it?

Ambiguous? I said straight out what I wanted - the misinterpretation was all yours.

You mean my new 360? Oh yeah - Microsoft finally got something right. :D Seriously, they should give up with that crappy OS of theirs and that even crappier mp3 player and stick to consoles.

You helped ;) :p

You said you bought it at IC, right? The Premium one? How many wireless controllers you got? and with GoW, not bad! :)

Wonder what I am going to get for Christmas. :D

Yes - got the premium one with the single wireless controller.

Only 3 games so far - GOW (came with it), COD3 and Fear. Should keep me occupied for a while.

Hectic. That is very

If only I could get myself to spent the money. Too focused on other things right now.
I will have to get a decent Plasma/ LCD as well, otherwise it just aint worth it.

/wonders whether we might be seeing some Xmas specials ;)

I bought the cheapest plasma I could find - a Sansui from HiFi - and it turns out it's 720p which is pretty decent. I also use it as the display for the Mini I just got as the hub for my home entertainment system.
