Howdy chaps!

So a new MBP has enter my house, along with its owner. Problem is that can't seem to transfer data through the internet when connected to my wireless router.

The important facts:

  • When connected via Airport to the wireless network the MBP will not browse, download mail or do any other internet related service.
  • The MBP is running a recent version of Snow Leopard
  • It works just fine on ethernet.
  • It connects and authenticates with the wireless network. The router kindly gives it an IP and everything looks as it should. I can even see the MBP from my MBP.
  • Furthermore, I am pretty certain it is not a router setting issue as every other Mac and device to enter the house has worked perfectly the network.
  • There appear to be no proxy settings.
  • The MBP has Vodacom's Broadband application (no idea what it is called) installed which seems to have been managing the Airport connection along with the mobile data device. I have changed the settings so it no longer does what ever it was doing with the Airport connection or anything else other than for mobile devices. Could this be a possible cause for the problem? I have no experience with this app.

Any suggestions on why it won't work? I feel like I'm back on Windows

Have you tried to ping a site?

I would suggest killing that Vodacom process and then trying Airport to connect to ur Wifi. The fact that it works over ethernet and on wifi you can see other machines this Vodacom thing is meddling somewhre... Try ping one of the other macs on your network and see if that goes through.

Thanks. I have killed the Vodacom process before but didn't help. I will try the pinging tomorrow though.

Other than that I will do try cleanse the machine completely of this Vodacom app, it can always be reinstalled if need be ;)

Try giving the MbP a static IP address and define the location. I seem to have constant issues with my iOS devices (phone and pad) and MBs connecting to my Netgear router. Overcame it by handing out static addresses and defining the location. It happened on all versions of iOS and Snow Leopard and the one before.

Try this:

Go into Settings and select the Network settings. On the left, all your networks should appear and each one is indicated with a colour (green for active). At the bottom of the left pane is a +, - and another button. Click on the other button and select re-ordering (or something like that). Move the Vodacom (or wireless) to the top of the level.

What I tend to do is create other locations for specific setups. For each location, you can setup your network preferences.

Get a Mikrotik RB750 connected to a 3G router to manage your routes (or run routesplit on the MAC to split the traffic between your home network and vodacom).

Try deleting and recreating all locations in network settings.

+1

Or check your router (my Edimax started giving issues with 2x window laptops as well) - Reset to default and re-created settings. Now it is more stable ;0
