I tried partition magic and everytime i apply changes the drive reverts back to its former state and tells me the mbr is corrupted or is not there anymore.
If my harddrive has these errors what software would fix this.I did use spinrite, did not work:(
So what now.Its not a hardware problem,ALl i need to do is fix it with some magic software.
What do you think:D

run windows

press r to go into console

go into console select your OS should 1 or something, might just boot straight in

type chkdsk enter
fixboot enter
fixmbr enter
chkdsk(space)/p
chkdsk /r

should fix whatever is broken and allow you to run a repair in windows xp

Boot off the windows cd... Go into repair mode... once you are logged into the DOS console type:

fixmbr

you can get a copy of Ranish Partition Manager...

http://www.ranish.com/part/

It comes as part of this Boot CD...

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

or Hiren's Boot CD.... or just make your own.

Boot With that... run Ranish... make sure you are looking at the correct drive.... then delete all partitions and Boot Code...

Load the Standard IPL... and press F2 to save.

Presto! :)

No advice on what to use except "OnTrack Works well", and try to google "Recover MBR"

All I can say is: Don't Stress dude, atleast it's only your MBR, not the click of death!

I have got it before on Newshost.... just do a search for... I think it is version 9.5

just go there and type in Hiren... only one option will come up... that is the one you want.

http://www.newshost.za.net/nzbbrowse.php?searchwhere=title&search=hiren&cat=0

if you can't get it... I will burn it for you.

thanks,i prefer a link locally and not the news server. But if i must whats the password and username for newsserver thingy mebob:D

Thanks gary,Will see what happens..

You need to have your own account for the Newshost...

for the SAIX newsserver... you don't need a username and password

just a SAIX account... and the NZB file to load into grabit.

I think Ranish will still work no matter what you have f'ked up.

It just allows you to get rid of everything!

Eh, download you hard-drives bootable CD utility, write it on a CD and do a zero fill, that is if you don't need the data anymore, it'll be like it came from the factory.

Every PC Jock should have a copy of MiniPE. Therein lays a program called Fix MBR.
Some virus programs alter the MBR.

Partition Magic has also been known to "bugger" things up FYI.

Unfortunately, after Symantec bought out Powerquest, they stopped developing this wonderful tool. I used in many time sin the past and it always worked. However, the last version onl supported patitions up to a certain size, 160GB or something. Anything larger and you risk corruption.

Luckily there are some nice Open Source tools that have more or less filled the void, but it still saddens me to see a great program being killed like it was. Same with Drive Image. Thanks Symantec :(

I just boot my ubuntu live CD and use that partition manager to format etc.

I still use Drive Image btw. Started using it around the time of Ghost 8.0 which was a load a chit.

Couple of other products Symantec killed. Norton Disc Doctor was one of them..
