MCSA Windows Server 2012 and Sql Server 2012

Hi,

I'm looking at doing these certifications via my work, and was wondering if it's necessary to attend training from somewhere like Torque IT (expensive though) or if getting the books and studying from those and then exams would be sufficient?

Or should I just do all five exams and go straight to MCSE?

No need to attend training :)

I use CBT nuggets which is paid for by the employee.
Since you say you will be doing it "via your work" perhaps you can suggest CBT to them too.

We normally just go through the training videos and then tackle the exams one at a time.
If you manage to pass all 5 at once, I take my hat off to you! my lil brain will never manage to pull that off.
 
I think I'll try to do them one after the other at my own pace.

I'm just worried that I might miss something that the training would have given me, but I suppose I can combine CBT plus a "book" of some sorts.

I find that CBT nuggets alone is not enough and I use supplementary training along with it ie: Windows resource Kits are a good source,

they are hell of an expensive, alot of theory in them but you can find pdf versions that are cheaper and they contain loads of practice exercises and sample questions and answers etc. etc.
 
I suppose it all depends on the level of experience you have.

I attended Torque (Pretoria branch) for my MCSA the year after I matriculated and I have to say they did a excellent job with the training.

Obviously I had no experience with networking and the labs and training they provided helped a lot.

But having been in the industry now for a short while I would say training is not a must, if you have a bit of experience you will have the general idea of most of what's covered in the MCSA.

This is only for the MCSA though. I have no idea what the SQL exams are like.
 
A mate of mine sat for his MCSE 2012 PC exams the other day, and he said they changed a lot around the way that exams are presented. Make sure you know your stuff. Microsoft exams used to be the "quick wins" of the certification industry, but they've stepped up their game considerably the last couple of months.
 
I'm going for three full days for each of the MCSA courses at Learnfast in Centurion, plus I'll be watching the CBT nuggets beforehand as well. I've been working on the server platform since the days of NT Server 3.51

What is the cost of the courses?
 
R 12558.00 for the first three MCSA courses exclusive of VAT. Includes 9 days of training in total, Then three exam vouchers at R830 each, also excl.
