Hi ginggs,

Huawei keeps claiming USSD support in E160 model.
On MDMA E160 generates
USSD send failed.

Mayby this is a case, dashboard application by Huawei communicates with
USSD gateway or not, enabling or disabling USSD support.

As you have already kindly explained to me, how sending USSD commands
is done and I tested E160 with putty terminal and your MDMA application
sending
AT+CUSD=1,"*111#",15 from putty and error is generated.

The same for *111# entered into USSD field of your MDMA.

Have you any idea or solution to the problem,
as I don't have any special idea why Huawei keeps claiming USSD support in E160 modem for months
and a final customer, like me, cannot verify such declaration as been
trued, valid and working.

Does it really matter, if my dashboard by Huawei does support or not USSD function if I run USSD tests from terminal or your MDMA application ?

Darius

E169 and E160 both support USSD .

Your test on MDMA application is failure .

But this software is not designed by us.

For this failure case, I guess maybe your E160's dashboard doesn't support USSD function.

Our USSD version dashboard can send USSD codes successfully.

Do you have a copy of Huawei's dashboard that can send USSD on the E160?

If I could take a look at it I might be able to figure out what they are doing.

The case is, no such dashboard has been released by Huawei yet.
Claims for USSD support in E160 come from Huawei support only,
no real example or any evidence in the last 4 months.

I assume Huawei is testing new USSD dashboard coming with
firmware upgrade to be released in a future.

For today any such claim for USSD support in E160 model by Huawei
makes me ask Huawei support to disclose any evidence in support of such claims.

It's really confusing to listen to such unsupported claims by Huawei.
What is a standard in most models by Huawei and other manufacturers is not a standard in E160 model.

Please contact Huawei support personally.
Mayby you, as a developer of MDMA application, have a case to get
any real material proof in support of such claims.

I failed in my contacts with Huawei over the last 4 months.

Looking for replacement of E160 models for E169 models.

Darius

I have setup a E160 for a customer before and even showed him how to reload airtime, buy bundles and check balances from Ginggs' app.

I assure you, USSD does work with E160.
Dunno about E169, but I cant imagine it not working...

Maybe there really is a problem with your provider/tower.

I emailed them for information on the E620 two years ago, still waiting for a response.
I assure you, USSD does work with E160.
Dunno about E169, but I cant imagine it not working...
What firmware versions do you & darius2 have?

The original E620 and E220 firmwares didn't support USSD properly, it only started working after a couple of revisions.

Great. Good point.
So be so nice to contact your customer and provide us with
firmware, hardware version of that E160, showing USSD support.

In my case
Hardware version: CD25TCPU
Firmware version: 11.604.18.00.264

E160 models tested by many people on the net and none showed
USSD support.

What problem with a provider/tower do you mean ?

My provider supports USSD in E169.
Are you suggesting he disabled USSD support in E160
for some undisclosed purpose ?

I don't see any problems with a tower, as USSD works in E169 fine.

A solution is to unlock my E160 and visit another provider for USSD tests.
Ok, I will call sim unlock service to perform some tests with other providers.

But the issue is to make USSD in E160 supported claims only.
Ask your customer to make some PrintScreens, as an avidence of USSD support in E160 models.

What is a provider of your customer ?

My data

E160 - no USSD support model
Hardware version: CD25TCPU
Firmware version: 11.604.18.00.264

BTW.
Could you list last firmware revisions for E620 and E220 supporting USSD properly, as well as respective hardware versions ?

Darius

Awww man, I have no idea what firmware was on that device.
If it helps at all... it was purchased at a vodastore in Nelspruit, January 2009.

Even if i tried for a year I wouldnt remember what firmware was on that thing. I do remember it was on Vodacom sim, prepaid.

My E220 supports USSD, firmware 11.117.10.00.00.
The one currently on Vodacom's site also supports...

I think E220 started USSD from 11.115.... cant be too sure on that fact though, coz i really cant remember.

Another thing Darius...

As far as I know... NOT A SINGLE ONE of Huawei's local dash's (at least from what Ive used) has built-in USSD interface.

Ok.
Huawei's dashboard is not an issue, as long as ginggs explained me,
USSD short codes could be sent from a terminal or from MDMA, not running
Huawei's dashboard, at all.

Cellular modems are multi-serial-port devices, so the port used for sending USSD short codes and getting responses, is not the same used for Internet transmission.

Finally.
One can send USSD short codes, not using Huawei's dashboard at all.

My dear friend,

the problem is E160 with unsupported claims by Huawei for USSD support not E220.

Are you sure, you are speaking about E160 model ?

Could you call your customer or vodastore in Nelspruit to get verified info on USSD support in E160 model ?

Google Maps is very slow on searching South Africa maps (cellular Internet)

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...l&ct=clnk&cd=1&geocode=FY5ae_4d4bPYAQ&split=0

So we are finally on a map of Nelspruit.
What is an exact name of a street , store contact details, phone number .. ?

Darius

Woah buddy... I wouldnt have those details even if I were the owner of that store.

I do clearly remember it being an E160, Acer Laptop, Win Vista. I remember installing it only because i helped him understand how to load airtime etc...

My dear friend,

get real.
You live in Nelspruit and E160 modem was purchased in Nelspruit.
Any problem to call a vodastore in Nelspruit and ask for details ?

No...
NOT A VODASTORE. (as in an actual VODACOM shop).
Just a Vodacom outlet inside another store.

THEY DONT KEEP THE DETAILS. The details are kept by Vodacom. And there is no way in hell they will give you a customer's details just coz you ask.

What bothers me even more, is that it seems you have ZERO respect for anyone's privacy, as long as it serves your purpose.

Stop this immediately please.
Even if i did have their details, i would not give them to YOU.
I wouldnt even give those details to my own MOTHER.

Take it as it is, or leave it the hell alone.

My dear friend,

you must be reliable and trustworthy in a public place like this forum.
We need to know for sure if your claims for USSD support in E160 modems by Huawei are or not supported.

We don't need details of your customer.
We need details of E160 modem with claimed by you USSD support, not verified from any other source in the world.

Any cellular modem is identified by
software version
hardware version
and some id numbers

What counts is software and hard version, as if Huawei released any upgraded version of E160 modem with claimed by you USSD support, so the same upgraded version of E160 has been released in large quantity and is avaiable for purchase in the same place - vodastore, as you mentioned earlier.

So we don't need personal details of a customer.
We need to verify your claims against available offer of E160 modems on sale at the same place, the same store.

As you know your customer, you can call him/ her to get hardware and software version details, not disclosing personal details of your customer.

Understood ?
There is no evidence in the world, that E160 modem can support USSD commands.
