Hi all.
This may have been discussed elsewhere, but I can't immediately find it so I'll assume this is a new thread topic.
Wtf is going on with prices of meat cuts versus EACH OTHER.
I am not necessarily complaining about the cost of beef cuts in general, but versus each other.
Let's take a look at a local supermarket today- prices beef per kg:
Tenderised steak 99,99
Bulk beef on bone 89,99
Soup meat 79,99
Bulk stewing beef 89,99
Beef goulash 109,99
Stewing steak 119,99
Premium rump steak 99,99
Sirloin steak 89,99
I don't think I need to go further into too much detail as the craziness is there:
How can premium rump and sirloin be same or cheaper than tenderised steak??
How can bulk stewing beef be same as sirloin steak?
How can stewing steak be considerably more than sirloin steak?
(I know some of you will unleash the waygu or rib-eye is real steak and unmatured sirloin is junk etc- we can debate that another time)
This is not the one supermarket. This is seemingly across the upper highway region to a greater or lesser extent.
As anyone over the age of 35 knows- bulk stewing beef and shin and that stuff are real cheap-ass cuts. Ice for their job- but always cheap-ass vs other cuts. And I haven't seen anything lately to redeem them otherwise.
I was planning a beef bulk-cut potjie this weekend. And it.looks like I will chop up beautiful sirloin steaks for it instead. (May add a bag of marrow bones to it for perfection. )My parents would be rolling around in their graves seeing the prices of bulk cheap cuts with dodgy sinew and jagged bones etc vs a lovely thick sirloin or premium rump.
