A Western Cape MEC was arrested for allegedly speeding along the N1 South near Midrand, Johannesburg metro police said on Tuesday.

The MEC was caught driving at 207km/h in a 120km/h zone in the early hours of Sunday morning, said spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

"He then failed to stop for the metro police officers who had to chase him and cut him off in his gold Bentley on Corlett Drive," said Minnaar.

The MEC was immediately arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving.

He was taken to the Midrand police station where he was later released on R1 500 bail.

"He will appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday," said Minnaar.

The gold Bentley bit obviously makes me assume that the mec is from a specific party...

Think an MEC can only from the ruling party in that province - in this case, the DA. I think it stands for Member of the Executive Committee.

Btw, how can a politician afford a Bentley? Very suspect.

I will laugh my ass off if it's Dan plato...

Or more like this...

Never mind the Bentley, what were the Metro Police driving that they were able to catch him? :D

They have focus STs, gtis and similar. 207 is not difficult.

They don't have to. Can be any councillor in the province. But with our proportional representation system it's less necessary for the ruling party to make concessions.

There have been numerous IFP (and even FF+) ministers, for example.

Absolutely. Very suspect.

A 3l Cortina with a plastic orange on the radio antenna and some carpet on the dash board sounds much more believable.
