Mecer 1000va offline ups - mute beeping?

Here comes the pain :) out of interest do all ups's do this or specific to these mercers losing settings when restarted...man I don't understand how so many comments on takealot don't mention this, "sounds" like other than me people like the beeping :)

My Mecer unit needs to have the setting re-applied via ViewPower every time it's turned off. I guess the most permanent solution is take off the speaker or just never turn it off ‍‍by the button. i.e. if you move the UPS, just leave it running.

I think most do. I might be talking out my arse but I'm guessing the settings are stored in some kind of volatile memory (as they obviously don't have any kind of hard drive) so the second there's no power or battery the settings go poof.

Just murder the speaker. It's more fun that way!

Hi all just wanted to report the surgery went well and worth it to get rid of the beep so for any of you doing this you don’t need to smash the speaker of the circuit board a little twist and you will find a little silver plate remove that and you good to go, don’t forget to disconnect the battery or you will short the board.
 
Hi guys, how long will the Mecer 1000VA Line Interactive UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) last with a basic pc setup just the computer and screen with and a wifi router during loadshedding

Depending on the size of the PC + Screen.

Normal PC (160W) and screen: Mercer 12v 720 + 100AH battery around R4500 depending on where you buy.
Gaming PC (380W+) and screen: Mercer 24v 1400 + 2 x 100AH batteries around R7000 depending on where you buy.
 
I got mine today and it lasted over 2hours. Can i connect it to a generator?
 
Was happy to hear software can stop the beeping, only to discover the UPS only has a COM port - talk about a cheapo UPS. Not going through all the trouble of finding a compatible USB-COM port adapter, so the poor speaker got unceremoniously removed.
 
A special place in hell for the idiot that designed the thing to beep AND place the screws so deep no screwdriver known to man can reach. Today I resorted to breaking the cover off with the claw of a hammer and removing the speaker. Pure silent bliss.

Also, that thing installs the java runtime.

I have a separate PC just for that, it's only purpose is to run viewpower. But it became too much eventually, and no more speaker.
 
I have 2x RCT 2000VA UPS

I tried both ViewPower and UPS Assistant to disable the buzzer in software but the setting is only remembered until the power goes out. Then the buzzer is back in action.

Here are some lessons learnt disabling the buzzer in a hamfisted approach:

  • You need a 150mm philips screwdriver to open the casing. Most are 100m so I had to find one at builders.
  • You should disconnect the batteries when working inside the UPS
  • You should be careful not to disconnect any of the other connectors, the cables are packed quite tight, and in my case one of them slipped off.
  • In some cases you can safely remove the cover of the buzzer and remove the metal disc inside.
  • On my one UPS the cover came off easily but on the other it was glued together. In that case, it's perfectly okay to twist off the buzzer with a pair of pliers. I can confirm it will still work.
