Not OK. It is dangerous. Is this OK or is it dangerous?
Etymology
So called because when one end is plugged into a live outlet, the exposed prongs of the other end are highly dangerous.
- (informal, electrical work) A simple electrical cord with prongs on both ends; plugging one end into a live outlet (for example a generator) and the other end into a dead outlet (in a house with no power) allows power to be injected from the live outlet into the dead one. quotations ▼When the hurricane hit and I lost power, I fired up the generator and jacked it in to the outlet in my garage with a suicide cable; at least I was able to run a few lights and my refrigerator.
Hi
I have a Mecer 2400 Inverter which I use by switching of my mains and back feeding through a plug point. Is this OK or is it dangerous?
Thanks
Hahaha YupHey this is no where near some of the crap I have seen em people do over in India.
The country where people have just enough "know how" to youtube this type of crap.
Hahaha Yup
Some crazy mofo's out there
But, a suicide plug can and does work if you know the elctric system setup at home.
You cannot assume the elctricians before you all did a proper job.
Ive heard many cases where what OP is saying does indeed work no problems at all, Ive also heard some people here when they tried it they immediately fried their inverter on the spot.
Totally agreeThere's no doubt that backfeeding through a random plug in your house is technically possible and does work. But from a safety point of view, it only takes one thoughtless moment, like forgetting to switch the mains off, or accidentally touching the live end of the suicide cable, for it to all end in tears.
Totally agree
One must never assume it is safe to do so as not all houses are wired 'correctly'
This is Africa, there are many numnuts who will work on wiring thinking they know what they're doing
