Colleague is having some car trouble with her Opel Astra 16v Automatic.
Says that she has to keep her foot on the accelarator to keep it going, otherwise it just dies out.
Timing issues?

Anyway, it'd be appreciated if you could drop details here or via PM of a reputable Macky that'd be able to go around to her place and assess what's going on in the morning.

Thanks

I can't help you with the mechanic part, but it doesn't sound like a timing issue. Timing issue would mean it is not optimal, which means it either back-fires or ping, if the timing is out further than that...well the engine wouldn't start because it would completely miss-fire.

Now what I do think your problem is, that when the accelerator is not pressed, not enough feul is getting through which could be one of a few simple problems.

M guess, a setting is required to allow more petrol through, kinda like setting the release limit on the accelerator cable, to allow just a tiny bit more, allowing the engine to idle without dying (kind of like a manual choke would do, but I guess this car doesn't have a manual choke)

This is just my guess, based on knowing a few simple facts on how manual engines work pre-electronic days.

Killarney should have a few... trying to remember the names of the places :-/
