Hi there. I'm using a g15 keyboard. Will moving to a mechanical keyboard be any good or should I stick to my G15. If I go for a mechanical keyboard please advice me what to buy. I am playing mostly FPS games.

Get one. One of the best upgrades you will ever buy. Logitech is a rip off for their membrane kb.

Personally I really like the steelseries line. No frills, but outstanding hardware. Especially the 7G. Other brands are coolermaster, they have the quick fire and the trigger, then razer with the black widow. Some people have had problems with the black widow though. Ultimate or not. Then there is corsair which has brought out the vengeance line of gaming peripherals. And added to that is the K60 and the K90. K60 being aimed at fps players and the K90, towards mmo.

Either brand will serve you well, even the Razer products. Just cross your fingers your board is from a good batch.

Cheapest out of all the ones mentioned is the quick fire ones. Around R800 give or take.

Hell yes. But then it depends what for. Typing will be about 1000x better, games only about twice as good or so. The best thing is probably to read up on the different types of switches, try keyboards out based on them and then buy one. Some such as the MX Blacks are best suited to gaming, and Blues are best for typing but there's not really any one that won't feel good. Another thing to consider is do you want backlit keys, because then your only option is pretty much the Blackwidow Ultimate, or to import a Deck. Decks are awesome but very, very expensive..

Or, just wait for the MyBB hardware troll to show up and tell you that only thing is awesome (coincidentally the one he has) and everything else is complete **** and marketing gimmicks because he knows everything. :D

I have the Steelseries 7G and love it. Afaik the Corsair K60 and K90 are not fully mechanical they only have mechanical keys for the wasd area. Coolermaster Trigger is really awesome, if I didn't go for the Steelseries I would of gone for the Trigger.

Upgraded to a Razer Blackwidow 3months or so back, best buy ever. Love the keyboard, totally worth the upgrade.

Steelseries is pretty good, I just don't like the look >_> If I spend R800+ on a keyboard it needs to look nice/not like a R40 keyboard. But thats just me.

It cost me just under R1400.

Yeah, forgot to mention the corsair were not fully mechanical. If its only going to be used for gaming, not that much of a problem. But you can pick up others for that are fully mechanical for the same price

Steelseries ftw!

LOL.

The coolermaster rapid fire pros are also lighted by led lights that light.

I never even realized this even though I bought the Corsair K90 keyboard!

You're actually slightly wrong though, because all the main keys are mechanical. Here's a detailed explanation taken from http://www.facebook.com/Corsair/posts/281916148515147
The G-Keys and the F-Keys, ESC, and the Insert through Page Down are key-domes. This was done purposely, both to tune the feel, and also so they could be placed on a lower plane then the main keyboard keys so they are less likely to be hit accidentally.

Cool, didn't know that.. But I did say "pretty much limited to", not definitely.. Nice that some other manufacturers are coming to the party.

I have asked logitech if they can't make a g15 keyboard with mechanical keys. I think that keyboard will be one of the best cause the g15 is cool only the mechanical part that's missing. They said they will forward it to the relevant department. please let's all ask logitech. the more people that ask the better the chances is.

If Logitech made one I would probably buy that. Also using the G15 atm.

I got to playing on a mechanical keyboard recently and it totally changed my view. I now do believe they fully justify the asking price to a dedicated typist. If you can do 70+wpm normally you will see a big benefit going mech. Blackwidow Ultimate is meant to be very good, Steelseries 6GV2 is a cheaper version of the 7G and hardly compromises anything important, significantly not the typing experience. So that could be a good option. But yes worth it, no question.

Love my CM Storm QuickFire Rapid w/ blues.

I have posted a lot on the subject, use search if you want to understand mech kbs better. :)

I'm not 100% sure of this, but I don't think they manufacture the 6GV2 anymore. But like you said, it is cheaper, almost R400 cheaper, and all you really lack is the palm rest.

Hm I see a lot of the shops online don't have it in stock anymore so you could be right. These places look like they have it:
Sybaritic
Rampage
Ikonicit
