Mede8er vs Popcorn hour

Kk now read post 12.

:D

Kk now read post 18, and then read post 10 again.

Unless your .avi's are some secret laboratory shiz? I cannot understand why a media player as well respected and often updated as Mede8er/WD Live would give you issues.

Post me a DVD, I'll test for you.

I also do not know...as I have explained...my PC plays the specific .avi files 100%...my media player does not. I am trying to figure out why. All I can think is that, according to what I have read, that the specific .avi's require a codec that my eGreat doesn't "have". What I am trying to avoid is buying the latest media player, be it Popcorn or Med8ter, and the specific .avi's still doesn't play.

If it's something that can be downloaded, I'm sure someone with uncapped could dl it and test for you?

What is the file? An average movie/series rip?

I haven't come across anything my Mede8er doesn't play.

Same here, everything worked on my old Xtreamer, i have thousands upon thousands of avi, mpg, mpeg, mp4, WMA, WMV, MKV, MT2S and RM files, and i have not came across one that i could not play
Can’t you just downgrade the firmware if it used to work?

Yep, my mede8er always plays everything unless the index is corrupted in which case you need to re-build it with freely available software - it will then also not work on a PC when this happens until its fixed.

Yeah, this is what I've been trying to say.

MQ, go for it, any newer media player will work.

If I had to choose between those I would probably have gone for the Popcorn Hour

Although I despise Xtreamer for not coming through with their promises on the Xtreamer Pro, maybe you should consider the Xtreamer Ultra, it rips both mentioned players apart, and comparing to those it’s not that more expensive http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=109&products_id=1165
Downside is it does not have an internal HD, but with 6 usb ports and a Wifi dongle (separate) who needs a external drive
You can read more about it here http://www.xtreamer.net/ultra/

Personally I went with the HTPC option, price wise it works out about the same

that xtreamer ultra looks very nice. i especially like the keyboard with touchpad. now if the price was just a tad lower...

I would go with the Popcorn. I am using the C-200 (connected to a Synology 4TB NAS) and Popcorn frequently updates their firmware to support new media formats. The Synology + Popcorn + YAMJ + Eversion skin provides you with an awesome home-media experience.

I had a MED500x and just got a MED500X2. I have noticed drop in the quality in terms of the fit and finish of the product. I unboxed it and noticed the rubber fan mounts not secured well and the rubber feet coming off. Also the adaptor and remote dont feel as good as the older ones did.
