Hi guys,

I am doing a setup at a cleints, and will need 3 media center extenders in the bedrooms (And no, I don't want to use X-Boxes)

Now unfortunately, I am only registered with Frontosa and they dont seem to have anything along the lines of what I am looking for. The only item that could fit the bill seems to be a Compro Videomate T1000W, but I am not sure that it supports the Media Center Extender functionality.

I dont need a WiFi capable device, as I am running Cat5 to all the bedrooms. Basically, all I need is HDMI output, and ability to play h.264 (MKV). And all of this in as cheap a package as possible.

Please provide suggestions on what is available locally, as well as where it is available from.

Regards,
Michael

Do you know if they'll be using Win7MC? I wonder if Vista Media Center Extenders will work with Win7MC?

nah, gonna set the media center PC up with Vista Home Premium SP2. But I would think that the extenders should still work...

Yeh - AFAIK - MCE2005 extenders don't work with Vista, hence the question.

Its something I'm also interested in doing as soon as I move.

hmm, ok... also something to take into account. But yeah, dont think it will be too much of a problem in this case...

so any suggestions on which products to look at? and where to find them?

Busy looking - the problem is the price.

mmm, well only suitable looking devices I have found are the 2 Compro devices (identical except for WiFi on the T1000W) and then there are 2 Linksys devices. The Linksys ones are around 2.5k @ Expansys, and I cant seem to find out who is the direct distributor.

Has anyone here had experience with the Linksys or Compro models?

Which Linksys?

Linksys DMA-2100 http://www-za.linksys.com/servlet/S...nksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=0018584723B01

And

Linksys DMA-2100 http://www-za.linksys.com/servlet/S...nksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=0055084723B02

Price is not too bad (2k - 2.5k @ Expansys, and they seem to have stock) but I think the only thing I can see with it that might be a bit of an issue is the lack of MKV and MPEG4 support.

The Compro options seem to support 99% of the standards out there, but I think that they do not work as extenders, which kinda defeats the whole purpose. What to do...
