So last night I connect my BB9700 to my laptop in mass storage mode (first time I've done it) I opened it on laptop and there's only shortcuts, so nothing opened when I clicked on any of the shortcuts. Wasn't in the mood to sort it out so I disconnected and left it for another time. Later last night I notice my pics, videos and mp3s are all gone from my phone! Did several battery pulls and even removed and re-inserted memory card but still nothing! Its not been deleted because my wallpaper still changes (wallpapers are saved on my memory card).

So what the hells going on and how do I recover my media.

Well first check the free space, if the free space matches that of the remaining content on your phone then somehow the files were deleted and there is no way you will ever get them back.

Did that. Still says I've used 1.6GB so I guess its not deleted. If I explore my memory card on my phone it says 'unable to display file'

Oh thats simple, files are corrupted, solution, Format...
Alternate solution, none...

You picked up a virus from your pc. The virus basically hides all the content on your mem card.

You can verify this by going to media on your bb, then click menu -> explore, browse to mem card and click menu -> show hidden then you should see all your files.

Spot on dude *bbm thumbs up* Any solution besides formatting?

First scan your pc for viruses, I recommend avast. Then put the phone back into the pc in mass storage mode, scan the removable drive with the antivirus. After that, open cmd then 'dir' to the removable drive and type 'attrib -R -A -S -H /S /D' without the quotes and hit enter - that should unhide all your files.

Thanx a lot, will try it when I get home if I've got time.

How about bluetoothing my media to my pc/alternate phone then formatting my memroy card and then send my media back to my memory card?

You can do that, just remember to unhide the files before you send them back to the mem card.

I think you're being unrealistic to expect newspapers or other media to be interested in mass storage mode story.
