Media player classic Vs VLC

On another note, I installed PowerDVD 8 this weekend, told MPC to use the Cyberlink H.264/AVC decoder and voila I now have hardware decode mkv file. :D Then thought I'd try Windows MediaPlayer. Up it pops saying it has no idea what this file is, but asks if I'd like to continue anyway. "Yes"... and now I can play mkv with hardware decode/accelleration in WMP. :) Me rikey!! 2% CPU usage while viewing an 11GB mkv :D

I'm doing this with Media Player Classic HomeCinema (a modified MPC) , it has a built in decoder for x264 that can offload to my video card. As you say its awesome to see full HD decoding with next to no CPU usage :)

Well, the instructions I followed involved pointing MPC HD to the PowerDVD8 decoder. Is that what you did?

About to uninstall PowerDVD, etc, and see what happens.

Ah, stupid me... I think it's just drivers from ATI that did it.
It sucks playing back an MKV in MPC HD. Fire it up in WMP and it is super smooth.
