Hey there,

I have a WD Live media player as well as a Mede8er MED250X.
One for series and the other for Movies, I am finding that the Mede8er sound to lip sync is horribly out, While the WD is perfect, I have read the the issue is with 3D tv's and the Media player not having a built in amp :wtf: anyways I am going to palm off the Mede8er to my Brother In Law, any suggestions for a good play to buy another WD live, i see most online retailers are around the R1200 Or could you guys suggest an really good alternative media play. Just by the by I am not watching 3D movies off it, I have tried various file formats as well as SD, 70p and 1080P Quality Clips with the same result. Thanks

Does your TV not have a lip sync option?

Anyway, I sold my Mede8er and I will never buy a media player again...A total waste of money, I'm lucky I could still get something out of mine.

You can buy a little HTPC.

Or if you must, and if you insist...then Roku will be the best option I think.

Would plugging in an external HDD to the WD not be more cost-effective and less of a hassle? I currently use a modded Playon HD with one internal HDD and an external and sometimes use other external HDDs as well and it works great. As for the Mede8er, it's one of the best on the market. Have you tried upgrading the firmare? I had the Mede8er firmware on my Playon for a while and I loved it:p

Best option is an HTPC running Plex or XBMC, otherwise I would just go for a WD media player.

Did you know the wd TV Live supports Netflix?

Nee man, nothing better than the mede8er. Have you tried changing the settings? It has a lip sync function. And their online support rocks. Best little gadget I've brought in years. En local is lekker! It might also be other factors to your lip sync issue, is is connected via HDMI. What TV do you have? Is it good, or bad pirated movies :)

XBMC and Plex are both vastly superior to the mede8er and indeed any other media players

That's nice. Except your HTPC eats more power. It's more economical, although requiring more effort to just copy the files to a USB HDD or stick and play off the Mede8r/WD Live TV/etc.

Yeah but when you add up the differences it will be a couple of Rand a month, definitely not a deal breaker

There's also the baobab media player, last I checked it was R600 at Computer Mania, a friend of mine has one and says it's perfect although he hasn't tried it with a 1TB drive yet, I think it's worth checking out though.
