Media Streamer : Sluggish

I have a Pinnacle Showcentre 200 and it's quite sluggish - even more so when I add my 100GB MP3 collection. I've googled and it seems to be an issue with most media streamers out there.

What actually makse it sluggish though? Is it the host PC (server)? Is it the device itself which doesn't have fast enough hardware/rpocessors? It is the link between the two (100mnps ethernet) or is it the interface itself?

I've only got 512MB RAM on my streaming PC - think bumping it to 1GB would help?

Actual browsing songs and media. I know it does vary with the number of songs in the database, but it's not super fast even with 1000 songs.
