Acquaintance wants to put his himself and his family on medical aid. Don't think they have had medical aid before. He is self employed thus could not afford it previously. Now things are looking up and he wants to do the right thing and get his family covered. 2 adults (late 30s early 40s). 2 children (between 5 and 10 years old). Hospital cover. Little bit of day to day. Hospital cover being the priority.

Budget is about R5k. Who can help point me in the right direction?

i just downgraded with discovery

2 adults and 2 kids

Your previous health plan CLASSIC DELTA SAVER
Your new health plan CLASSIC SMART PLAN
New monthly medical contribution R 4261.00

from the benefits it has good hospital cover. Co-payment of R50 for doc visits

Fedhealth is currently not giving waiting periods except for pregnancy to certain brokers in the industry

Surely they will have to pay a late joiner penalty? How can that be avoided? They haven't contributed to the pool for one or two decades?

Maybe its a promotion to try and grow the pool. The pool is getting smaller and smaller as more people cannot afford medical aid.

OP's friend... 1 is over 40, they will add penalties for the years not on medical aid...

LJP will have to be paid, there is no waiting period at the moment ( 3 months general and 12 months conditions specific except for pregnancy, offer is open to a limited few broker houses.)

LJP - very important to provide all your previous cover that you had over the age of 21 it will help reduce or eliminate it.

If they can provide proof of cover after the age of 21 - the person needs to prove 6 years cover to eliminate the LJP.

That's correct a lot of schemes do this from time to time.

Hmm.

I know someone who joined at around 43 years. Gent is a client of mine.

He was on a medical aid when he started working. For round 7 years. Then off for 2 years. Then on for 6.5years. Then off for a decade(this I know as fact, other years could be off as I'm typing from memory). Then joined again. And all the medical aids wanted to hit him hard with penalties.

No. It an it.

Sir/madam are not good discribing words for that....

Now you've lost me. Is I.Am.Sam like a transgender person? If so, my humblest apologies again. I am not too clued up with the correct PC terms of addressing all the different types of human beings.
