I am on my moms medical aid plan atm and I have been smoking for 2 years without her knowledge. I've recently become sick and need to see a doctor. The doc will ask if I smoke and I would like to say yes but I'm worried that the premiums would then increase since there's a smoker in the plan which would make my mom furious in more ways than one. Better to just lie?

You are running the risk of no payment at all, get ill, medical aid finds out about your smoking and rejects the whole claim. Better to tell your mom you are smoking and get the insurance changed.

Yep, they will see that as non-disclosure, claim repudiated, they could even cancel all cover. Oh, and your Mom knows you smoke, do you think she is stupid?

You can disclose it and your premiums will not change. Medical aids cannot discriminate on health status by law. They can instill waiting periods but they must charge every member the same price. (excluding of course late joiners)

I don't live with her, and when I am at home I don't smoke. If she knew she would've told me I'm sure.
