Need some advice :

I am on Momentum health and am paying around R1850 per month, its the incentive option and your savings are 10% of your yearly contribution.
I find this not enough and have spent a lot more this last year and find myself looking for a more comprehensive cover.

Would you advise the next option or would you suggest going back to Discovery?

It seems like the nest option, the extender, if a bloody fortune and you only get around R4500 for daily expenses per year.
What happens when its depleted? Does the threshold kick in? What happens after you pay the threshold?

its a bloody joke what you pay and what cover you get back.

Maybe Discovery is the better option?

Thanks

Have you looked into some type of GAP cover.

As far as I know, gap cover only covers in hospital expenses that the medical aid short pays, if there is ga cover out there that pays for day to day expenses when your aid runs out, I would very much please like to know who I can contact, as I paid R10k + per year for the last two years for meds when my limit is reached on day to day savings. We do have Xeleus gap cover, but as mentioned, they only cover hospital shortfalls.

From your vantage point Discovery most be looking really sexxy....from mine, they can go to hell, and some... :

I pay about R1500 a month,....- I am 33, healthy active lifestyle, but have some crap genes when it comes to the blood pressure department,...always had elevated BP, since my early 20s....anyways, so the time came to manage it with meds.

Did all the chronic benefit docs thing, they only cover X amount....ok,cool....can cover the balance from my MSA,...that virtually just rolls over year after year...sorry you can not do that, ...all short falls from your chronic benefit, you have to funded out of your pocket....or cancel your chronic cover, and us your MSA to cover the full amount....or move over to our, cost a arm and a foot, option....alas, I pay the shortfall...

Just my perspective on Discovery...

Pay R3000 +- for Discovery and they pay almost all medication, dental work, GP, X-Rays except for a relatively small payment gap... fairly high family limits... never exceeded them...

Hi There

Just something to keep in mind is that if you change to Discovery they may exclude some conditions for up to a year. Best bet is to chat to Consultant or broker if you work through a company. If private contact Momentum and let them advise you best option for your circumstances. They also have walk-in centres in JHB , Centurion , Dbn and CT.

Whatever you do, read the scheme rules carefully - Discovery Comprehensive plans are great, however you get medical savings, those are used on ALL day to day expenses - once those are finished, you go into a self payment gap, where you need to pay from your own pocket - submit claims to close the gap, then once the limit has been reached, you go into an above threshold benefit where the scheme pay. But NB, its pricey

Damn dude my dad pays 2k and they cover everything, even gets a free implant every year. Spectramed.

Discovery is rubbish in my opinion, i was paying 1.1k for just a hospital plan, no free doc visits, no dentists. Now i am on medical insurance or something like that, costs me 500 bucks a month and covers doctors, dentists. Only trouble with it is there is a limit, so if i need a heart transplant that costs a bar i won't be covered, my dad however will be. I am not saving much because gym was only 160 now it's 645 but the benefits for the same money are better. I have never used discovery for a single thing yet my premium goes up and up and up and the benefits shrink and shrink for the hospital plan.

They pay for his meds as well, 1k a month for 7 months. Which is a bonus so the medical aid isn't actually costing him 2k a month if you work back the amount saved on meds, doctors, dentists etc.

http://www.spectramed.co.za/ superb medical aid. My dad has never had an issue with them.
