I'm currently on the Fed health Maxima standard plan but since I almost never visit the doc I'm considering moving to just a hospital plan. Unfortunately Fed health only seem to offer "Networked" hospitals which means getting carted off to CT if I end up in hospital.

Any hospital plans that don't require "network hospitals" or even a cheaper standard plan from another medical aid

We have been with Selfmed for several years on their Hospital Plan. My wife has used it on a couple of occasions and we have had no problems with paperwork or payment.

Selfmed also has very good reserves and had a below inflation increase this year.

How much do you want to pay?

Try Bonitas Bonsave for R1279/pm, you get R2832 day to day benefits and if you don't use it all it will get carried over to the next year. They also pay 150% of normal hospital rates.

Alan, are you on the Maxima Standard or the Maxima Standard(net) plan?
Standard is open but (net) is network based.

Just keep the plan you have mate. As fate would have it, the moment you down grade the shyte starts hitting the fan.

Well, we are with Discovery Coastal core, and very happy. We pay R2100(I think) for all 4 of us, and they pay very well. For anything in hospital. The only thing is they pay specialists 100%, but if you can get a Gap Cover on top, you sorted. My baby at birth was in ICU for a week, they paid every cent! I was in hospital twice this year, and they paid it all. As I say, it is only the specialists....
