Hi there. I am a single 30 year old lady. I am not earning a huge amount right now simply because I am studying as well. Probably just under R2,000 a month. I am thinking I do need to stat looking into getting a medical aid as u never know when you might need it etc. What would u guys recommend and a reasonably cheap price?

If I were you I'd just start a savings account and put R200 into it each month and label it as my "medical aid". You don't earn a lot and the coverage you will get for what you can afford will be daylight robbery for when you really need to pay for stuff.

@ OP

I suggest you have a look at hospital plans which would be a better option considering your financial status.

Sound medical aids range well in excess off R1000 for a single member.

That might cover day-to-day stuff, but one would need at least a hospital plan. If you get nailed with a R500,000 bill then it could leave you in a financial mess, let alone for someone earning R2,000 pm.

Keycare discovery would be your best bet, check it out, it covers some out of hospital benefits as well.

I have a hospital plan at the moment so I will stick with that but will open a savings account and put some money away in there. Thanks.
